Final nail in the northern Sheffield trainee driver coffin

Received the offical confirmation from Northern regarding the on hold Northern trainee driver position for Sheffield. Gutted. Really hoped patience would be the key and things would turn out good

Thank you for your patience whilst you have been on our on hold list for a driver role at Sheffield.

We regret to advise that there haven't been any suitable opportunities for you since your interview and we have no predicted opportunities for the remainderof the year.

Therefore, as your interview has a 9 month validity, we will be taking your application off our on hold list and closing this down.

Should you still be interested in working for Northern, we would ask that you sign up for vacancy alerts and apply for any suitable future roles.

Your driver psychoetric assessment remains valid for 5 years.

Its all the freight redundancies that are knobbling opportunities like this. It wont get any better anytime soon as new or worsening Ts and Cs at freight are pushing more and more drivers to passenger work aswell as all the redundancies. I honestly believe the best chance of training as a driver in about 18 months time will probably be with freight companies!

Whilst this may be the case in a few instances, not one freight driver I know has been able to get in with Northern.

Despite applying, most have heard absolutely nothing from them.

I believe a large freight company who are in the process of making redundancies are expecting to recruit in the South in the near future due to a mass exit of staff (of their own accord).

AFAIK Sheffield positions were filled in with internal transfers mainly.

ive had the same dear john posh! the lad who was on my assessment centre was invited back for another interview. passed it and has been put back on hold but with a similar tone to the emails we have received. Talk about raising hopes and expectations only to kick you in the teeth again.

what annoys me most about the whole process is they have graded candidates on interview scores. I had less than 24 hours to prepare for my interview having received a telephone call at 2pm one afternoon and being invited to attend the following day. Dont worry they said. It will be taken into account they said

I obviously passed as i made it onto the on hold candidates list but 12 months on my lower interview score has been my downfall.
I know i would have done much better with more preparation time
Not really a level playing field and most certainly an unfair disadvantage.
