Sorry it was only a quick bit of info about the bridge Howard, I've been working nights up on the Parkway job so bit rushed today.
Yes indeed, it was quite poor so needed replacing, it was one of those concrete jobs that looked dodgy from new, the new structure is steel.

Dec 2018 timetable change for the four tracking, but electrification comes later.

From NR's CP5 enhancement delivery plan, Sep 2017 update.

Anyone know when the next Filton Bank weekend closure is? I'd like to go round the XC Newport diversion.

Edit: As per the following posts, I meant Bristol Parkway closures.

How can XC divert via Newport if Filton bank is blocked? They go via Swindon and Kemble.

Duh! Just having a slight brain failure there. Or course, what I want is the next Bristol Parkway closure, when XC do divert via Newport. And that's assuming there are some further Parkway closures to come, relating to the work for the 4th platform.

But come to think of it the Filton Bank closures and the Swindon diversions would be good as well.

I'll have a further dig around for any info anyhow.

Filton Abbey Wood update.
The realigned pedestrian access from the station car-park in Emma-Chris Way re-opened last week, 31Jan apparently.
Realignment being necessary to provide the space needed for the 4th platform track to go in, for the use of Cardiff-bound services.
The temporary scaffolded pedestrian walkway from Nutfield Close is now closed and is being dismantled, to allow work here to move on to further clearance/excavation and foundational groundworks for platform construction.

Another update from last weekend. Much of the drainage systems appear to have been installed at the Filton end of the Bank, with freshly laid ballast over the top; presumably that will all now need to bed in in advance of the Easter Blockade. Unsure of the progress at the Dr Day's end though.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but:

1) When is the anticipated/timetabled finish date for the quadrupling?
2) Are all four lines due to be electrified?
3) What, if any, additional services are explicitly planned to operate once this work has been complete (aka, no vaguely muted additional services as part of the 'MetroWest' fantasy)?

The line won’t be electrified at all anymore as electrification has been “paused” so only the line via Parkway will be electrified, not even Temple Meads!

End of this year/start of the next one AIUI.
2) Are all four lines due to be electrified?
At this point, no, due to the wiring being "Graylinged". Only time will tell if the wires get extended down to Temple Meads.
3) What, if any, additional services are explicitly planned to operate once this work has been complete (aka, no vaguely muted additional services as part of the 'MetroWest' fantasy)?
AIUI, the new layout would allow fast & slow services to be segregated; the only new services I'm aware of are the fast BRI-BPW-PAD IETs.

Do we know yet when the existing tracks are going to be slewed, and if that will be done in one long closure or several?

Network Rail say "The project is due to be completed with the laying of the new tracks during a solid 23-day block of 24 hour engineering work in the autumn of 2018. Further information about this period of engineering work, and alternative travel arrangements, will be published later in 2018."

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/runni...tern/great-western-mainline/bristol-upgrades/

I did see some actual dates quoted in Oct/Nov 2018, but now can't find the link.

Currently the 2 tracks swap from the west to the east side of the formation around Milepost 3 out of Temple Meads. Presumably some of the new tracks will be laid on the east side from Lawrence Hill up to Ashley Hill (MPs 1 to 2 3/4 approx), and on the west side down from Filton Abbey Wood to around Constable Rd (MPs 4 1/2 to 3 1/4 approx) in readiness - with the area around milepost 3 and the new crossovers at Horfield being sorted during the blockade?

Sleepers being laid out today on the restored W side of the formation between Constable Rd (3m 29c) and Bonnington Walk (3m 62c) over bridges.

These will eventually form the relief/Cardiff lines.

Did you happen to get an idea whether the existing tracks will need to be slewed again? I have a feeling they were, after the originals were removed.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Is the layout of the 4 tracks going to be (from Bristol Temple Meads) from left to right:

1) to South Wales
2) from South Wales
3) from Westerleigh Junction
4) to Westerleigh Junction

or

1) to South Wales/Westerleigh Junction relief
2) to South Wales/Westerleigh Junction main
3) from South Wales/Westerleigh Junction main
4) from South Wales/Westerleigh Junction relief

That's how it was in GWR / BR days, except that freight trains from South Wales and to South Wales from the Rhubarb curve (ie to /from Bath) would cross over near Narroways Junction. I don't know what South Wales to Portsmouth express trains did, although the main platforms at Stapleton Road with facilities and station entrance were the ones on the east side, so perhaps there was an opportunity to cross over further north.

Neither!
From the plans for Ashley Hill station as part of Metro West, from W to E they will be

1) Up Relief to Cardiff
2) Down Relief from Cardiff
3) Up Filton Main to Parkway
4) Down Filton Main from Parkway.

I understand there will be 75 mph crossovers at Horfield to allow PAD - BRI via BPW (& vv) trains to cross from the mains to reliefs if heading to reinstated P1/0 i.e. in the Digby Wyatt train shed.

This was reason I was given that it will be difficult, but not impossible, for Horfield station to be reopened on its original site and (as the then Cllr) I supported a new station at Constable Rd instead, in addition to Ashley Hill / Down.

^^^Yes, the other poster got that wrong and I didn't notice. (We drive on the left in GB on rail!).
I think you were right on Constable Road. Far more housing of folk who might use local metro services, I suspect, and more housing now going up, I understand.

And presumably also the locals to BPW that call at SRD and LWH, or are the 'main' platforms at those stations beng reinstated?

I believe the trains to which you refer will be the main users of the new crossovers, at least initially. Currently the Great Malvern/Gloucester to Westbury serve Stapleton Road and Lawrence Hill going south, and the Weston to Parkway trains going north. This may change with the new timetable next year though.

See D1009's reply and no they aren't, to answer the second question. I never saw a passenger train stop at Lawrence Hill's platform 4. I suspect the daily trains taking the Rhubarb curve for the shift workers at Fry's Keynsham possibly used to stop at it and possibly excursions.
