Is that the one set on London Underground? If so I saw it ages ago and also thought it was crap.

That always features prominently on lists of the most disgusting/weird/perverted etc. films ever made

Killing Them Softly - Andrew Dominik must be an exceptional director to make a film with Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins and Ray Liotta such a boring, pretentious, long winded piece of garbage. 3.0/10

That is the most concise review of Killing Them Softly I have ever read. Ha ha.

I watched the Dirty Dozen last night, it was good, not sure if it was based on a real story or not, I shall have to look it up.

Words cannot describe, rented it from Blockbusters without reading into it, no idea what I had just watched!! Not recommended to anyone easily traumatized :o

The title on it's own was enough to turn my stomach when I first heard it. From what few screenshots I dared look up, I swore never again to go near it. What's worse is that two sequels were made, each more deprived than the preceding one. Urgh, definitely a case of each to their own...

Good Morning Vietnam - It's really just a series of Robin Williams' quick-fire routines interspersed with some fairly ordinary Vietnam war stuff, not a bad film but not great - except for the music 6.0/10

Certainly entertaining and I could watch it again tonight (If in the mood, and I'm not sure what I am in the mood for).

Broken City - Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe in a workmanlike thriller in which a private detective with a past comes up against a corrupt New York mayor, difficult to criticise but not outstanding either however I did like the ending. 6.0/10

Airplane (for the umpteenth time)- Hilarious, what more need I say 9.0/10

Dark Corners - 90% of a decent psychological horror that lost its way in the last few minutes 5.0/10

Dark Water - Well made horror/drama but deeply depressing due to its subject matter. Marriage break-up, dilapidated apartment block, constant rain, traumatic childhood memories, get the picture? This is adapted from a Japanese film so if you like The Ring etc. it might be to your taste, not mine 5.5/10

For completeness I suppose I should watch Dark City, Dark Shadows, Dark Star and Donnie Darko next.

Nighthawks - A "cop v terrorist" film starring Sylvester Stallone which probably looked good in the 80s but now it's a clichéfest. According to the opening credits the music was by Keith Emerson, I thought "No, it can't be the Keith Emerson", well according to IMDb it was but you wouldn't know it. 5.5/10

The Time Traveler's Wife - Despite the title this is really a romance (or sci-fi without aliens, spaceships and futuristic gadgets, which is how I like it) but don't let that put you off as it's an excellent, thought provoking, poignant film and I confess there were several scenes where I appeared to get a speck of dust in my eye 8.0/10

p.s. The spelling of "Traveler" is not the one I'd have used but it's the title of the film.

Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) - Starring Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne this is not really a remake of John Carpenter's 1976 classic it's a completely different film based on the same premise of a police station under siege. I prefer the first one with it's dramatic musical theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDTKj5nXvgw), unforgettable final scene and quirkiness but others will prefer this which is an action film typical of it's time. 6.0/10

Dead End - A short (80min.), low budget horror that, although hardly original, is effective by being concise with hardly any unnecessary scenes or dialogue, short and to the point sums it up. Some black humour and very little gore or violence. 7.0/10

Seoul Station is an Anime prequel to Train To Busan. Not a massive Anime fan but it is alright. Also watched Dead Mans Shoes and Sully over the weekend. Dead Mans Shoes has one of the best threat scenes I have ever seen in a film and Sully is an amazing true story. Oh, also watched The Damned United which I bought for 50p, an amazig film even if you don't like football in my opinion.

Dead Mans Shoes - Great film, Paddy Considine's character was so intense he was scary, It's difficult to believe he's the same actor who was in comedies like Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Toby Kebbell also gave a fantastic performance as his younger brother.

I paid £19 for Dead Mans Shoes over the weekend. A bit on the steep side but after watching it years ago and wanting my own copy I didn't mind forking out on pay day weekend. Paddy Considine plays Richard brilliantly. The soldier who has come out of the army and finds his brother has been bullied by scum bags. I think what makes the threat scene so effective is the mundanity of it. It could be Coronation Street where it is filmed. At the same time he puts across really well that he just does not care, he doesn't have to be the worlds biggest movie hardman, he is a bloke who just doesn't even know the edge was there for him to go over it, at the same time he isn't coming across like a mad psycho.

£19! For that I'd want his shoes, socks, Levis, leather jacket and immortal soul.

Ha ha, true. Love the film though and thought it had been deleted. Plus I had had some lunchtime pints and it seemed a really good deal. Ahem. Still the money is gone and I'm glad it is mine.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - Why on Earth would anyone want to watch a film about a couple of foul-mouthed, ignorant, violent, offensive, low-life, drug dealing ne'er-do-wells? Because they're funny! Loads of star name like Ben Affleck, Carrie Fisher, Matt Damon and Will Ferrell but it's mainly about Jay and Silent Bob themselves. which is what matters. 8.0/10

Indeed, I am a big Kevin Smith fan.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me - The prequel to the Twin Peaks television series and you need to have seen that series if you're to get anything from this as it won't make much sense if you're not familiar with the Twin Peaks universe. There are some really weird scenes, some very disturbing scenes and a cameo by David Bowie but overall not the greatest of Lynch's films however it's a must for Twin Peaks completists. 7.0/10

The Man from Earth - Half a dozen academics gathered together in a room and a man with an unlikely story, no CGI, no aliens, no spaceships, no advanced technology. Doesn't sound much like sci-fi does it, but if you're willing to engage brain this is a fascinating film. 8.0/10

Déjà Vu - No, not that French disease where everything happens twice but the 2006 Denzel Washington sci-fi thriller with a different angle on time travel. It's not great but Denzel Washington always adds an extra gloss to any film in which he appears. 7.0/10

Watched Dead Mans Shoes again last night mate. It is an amazing film, on the one hand humorous and on the other utterly devastating whilst never being particularly visually violent. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in more than just a standard Hollywood thriller with a happy ending which is what you pretty much always know is what will happen at the end. It was worth £19 to me but if you can download it for free give it a go.

I watched Suicide Squad tonight and found it utterly tedious apart from Harvey Quinns bum. Cheered myself up by watching The Damned United.

The Big Short (Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, John Magaro, Finn Wittrock, Jeremy Strong, Rafe Spall, Hamish Linklater and Brad Pitt, dir. Adam McKay): 8.0/10.0

A gripping, scary and witty account of how a group of outsiders predicted the financial crash of 2008 and betted against the banks. Stick with it, it's a great film.

The Other Guys - Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a couple of detectives who are the butt of all jokes in their police department. I really enjoyed it even though I couldn't follow the plot (I'm sure an important scene was removed by some dodgy editing) it was laugh a minute stuff and they actually seem to have thought up some new comedy situations the "lion v tuna fish argument" and Will Ferrell's sex life being a couple of good examples. 7.0/10

A Monster Calls, really enjoyed it. Very sad but very well done. Richards brother in Dead Mans Shoes plays the young lads dad. Felicity Jones from Rogue One is his mum. Liam Neeson plays a tree with a very particular set of skills. The lad who plays the boy Conor actually lost his own mum not long before the film was made.

The Guard - Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong and Liam Cunningham in a comedy thriller from Ireland. An idiosyncratic country garda finds himself dealing with murder, drug smuggling, corruption and the FBI. I thoroughly recommend this as a change from the usual Hollywood output, very funny with a smattering of violence and a dash of pathos. 7.5/10
