Filming at Kings Cross

They appeared to be filming Harry Potter in Kings Cross today.

Platform 4 had a set of Virgin Mk3s with 67s top & tailing them this morning & they were still there this evening.
Platform 5 this evening had West coast railways 47 & 4 coaches behind it.

I noticed platform number signs along the platforms - no. 4 was "9" and no. 5 was "10" (i.e. leading to platform 9 3/4)
From platform 6 I could see large groups of people & also a trolley of old suitcases/trunks etc with an owl cage on the top.

Odd that they were allowed to block 2 platforms in Kings Cross in the evening peak - but suppose that as Platform 0 was in use (there were some puzzled faces when the 17:30 was announced as leaving from Platform 0) it was only one platform less than was available for use on Friday.
Just meant that a lot of services (FCC in particular) were being announced at fairly short notice (my service was announced 4 minutes before departure) from non-standard platforms.

Plus how busy is the West Highland compared to the East Coast? There's a big difference in service there, anyway got speaking to one of the drivers about it - filming is taking place all week, so just grin and bear it.

The West Coast stock was four intercity coaches. Olton Hall/Hogwarts Castle and the Hogwarts Express mark 1s moved down to London last week so I suspect it will/has made an appearance at Kings Cross.

I agree its not like the train companies are in business to make money is it :roll:, Another platform has been opened so they are only losing one, not the end of the world is it!

I think this block was included as part of the forthcoming platform blocks. I think the new ECS moves and diagrams for that started recently as sets were going in and out all day. There was certainly a lot of activity late morning/early lunchtime.

Hogwarts Express was also there this morning.

I'm going to guess that they couldn't 'hire' and East Coast set, partly because of the mix of livery, also partly because the other livery is effectively NX branding and because there is no spare set to be had for 'filming'.

If any other trains were caught in shot then there was quite the variety when they were doing some filming. All TOC's were in there at one point.

The Hogwarts Castle loco was there.

I suppose it's all down to ones opinion, i think it is quite an entertaining group of films, but i also enjoy factual programmes profusely, not to mention a bit of comedy.

I would love for there to be a signalling problem etc at KGX, and for them to have serious problems with capacity in the station. - and they could do nothin about it because off Harry Potter.

Not a Harry Potter fan either- but criticising them for being "unrealistic" amused me rather. Call the books and resultant films formulaic, derivative, boring if you will, but "unrealistic" is hardly a valid criticism of a fantasy film.

Very interesting comment given that many/most/all TOCs and Network Rail have negoatiated an agreement to deliver a rail service and (hopefully) not one or more comedy films.

They can ask you to stop if you are filming or photographing their stuff due to copyrights - but only if you are to post it online. Also they have a few more highly paid lawyers than you!

True but if they are on a station (semi public access area) they do not have rights to tell you not to photograph.

Also true but if you are on Platform three at Kings Cross and about to get on a train and you get a couple of shots, what is going to stop you? And even if they have a go at you they can't ask you to delete the pic - job done!!
