Hi all, just wanted to know what I can legally do in terms of photographing or filming train stations. Ie can I post online and can I film platforms of stations without ticket gates or platform tickets?

Yes but they aren't clear if not following the rules, ie filming without staff knowing, is illegal.

Its all very clear on that link. Its also clear that if there are no staff on duty, then you can't tell them, but you can still take photos.

That link is from Network Rail, checkout the guidance from the British Transport police as well.

As long as you don't intend to do commercial photography you can enter station platforms to take them.

Is photography in this case inferred to include videos?
Sounds stupid but I just find little reference to home videos.

As far as I know, if you mean 'can they arrest me for it' - no of course not, but if you make a nuisance of yourself/create a safety hazard/obstruct staff and passengers etc. you might well be asked to stop and/or leave the station (understandably and correctly). But remember that trespass on the railway is a criminal offence so don't go where the public aren't allowed.

Just use common sense, be safe and be aware of the guidelines and you'll be fine.

I think you can safely assume that.
