Once we had got the roof back on Barrow Hill Roundhouse and secured the perimeter with fencing it was time to start acquiring exhibits for what would become one of Britains premier preservation sites.
Many visitors, however, are unaware of the logistics of getting a rail museum like this stocked. Not all of the locos are passed for mainline operation and we had to resort to hauling them in by road. There are at least two specialist firms in the U.K who concentrate on moving large rail vehicles by road and 'Allelys' show in this video how experienced they are when they brought the LMS Jubilee 4-6-0 'Kolaphur' in December '98. The rear entrance to the roundhouse was a complete quagmire of mud but using the rear steering trailer the crew make it look easy.

The video shows the tender being turned and positioned first and the the Stanier 5XP 4-6-0 pulled off the trailer by the shed shunter using an ex British Railways brake van as a runner wagon.
a couple of weeks before two of the heritage diesels were delivered to site by rail. A1A-A1A 31 420 which is itself a living dinosaur brought Co-Co 37 111 and Peak class 1-Co-Co-1 45 060 down the Midland 'Old Road' and onto the spur. That bit went smoothly enough but getting the two mainliners moving with our ancient Bagnall 0-4-0 resulted in some prolonged wheel slippage.
