Filename Question

As you may know, I take pictures on my phone.
I have always had the same phone, which is now getting a little worn.
The filenames for the images are now getting to DSC03000 or something like that.
If I buy a new phone and put my memory card in it, what will happen?
Will the filenames carry on from DSC03000? Will the filenames try to start at DSC00001 and then fill in any gaps in filenames? Will they overwrite all the old images? Will it create a new folder and start again?
I'd quite like it to just carry on from where it left off rather than trying to start again or anything like that, as my fotopic photos are listed in filename order, meaning it would cause hell if the filenames started again!

Thanks

You'd probably find it'd start from DSC00001. Mind you, even the prefix might be different - even if it were the same brand of phone.

mine start with SP_A01??? so each phone is different, get the phone ppl to give you a demo of taking pics then look at the top at the file ID

Something similar was discussed before. I started that thread. This is a different question.

It will be the same brand of phone, and I think, will still use the DSC prefix.

I half expect it to start again from DSC00001, but how can it if there is already a DSC00001 on the memory card? Is there any way of setting the filenames to start from where they are on the memory card?

EDIT: I probably haven't explained this too well actually. But it's a hard one to describe.

Let's try a different way...

I have images '1 '2 and '4. If I get a new phone, can I get it to start from '5? Or will it try to start again from '1 and maybe fill in the gaps, with '3.

Any better?

In theory if it's using the same file naming system and there's some photos on the card it should pick that up and continue numbering from there. But that'll depend on how the phone software has been written. It may just overwrite the files or make a new folder or something.

Many of my pictures are deleted. So will it pick up from the last filename, or just the first gap in file names?

I don't think it'd fill in the gaps, it'd either start from the last filename or start from scratch.

Say ya get another SE phone, it reads the last file name on there and carrys on what are in your CAMERA ALBUM not pictures or videos etc..., there's an option to reset the file number though. Works with SE as it happened on my old phone. Watch out though as your Duo Stick card won't work with newer SE's as they use the new micro type. I fell for that when i went from my 750 to k610, but the k610 worked fine with the 810.

Ah, that's annoying. I like my MSDuo.

Good to know it won't get too complicated though :)

And Mark, I've never asked before, but what the hell is your avatar all about?
