Fife ticket scheme hitting the buffers?

According to a report in the Dundee Courier newspaper, Fife Council's concessionary travel scheme for the trains could be facing the axe.

It should be stressed, there is a consultation going on, and it may be that they retain the scheme, but increase the concessionary fare to be paid.

Fife have always been fairly generous to pensioners. I recall an elderly aunt hopping on and off buses for free 30 years ago. If they didn't travel by train though, they'd probably use the coach (free) instead... Then Fife council may then have to consider subsidising rail services instead in order to maintain a service.

Tough choices

Perhaps if there was somewhere modern and attractive in Fife to go shopping, they wouldn't leave the Kingdom.

Dunfermline and Glenrothes were unattractive shopping destinations the last time I visited. Haven't been to Kirkcaldy in years...
