Does the loop get used much these days? There used to be an early morning weekday train that would run up ECS and use the loop to turn before heading to Glasgow (of all places) but I don't see that in the timetable.
It's used occasionally to turn back late runners. I ended up in it a year ago when my Leven service got cancelled at Kirkcaldy.
You can turn back on the Down line too, but invariably there's something on your tail by Kirkcaldy so having the siding means a cancelled train can get shunted out the way.

Very nice to see the new Cardenden station footbridge, steps and lifts being installed!

(Video of Cardenden station footbridge being lifted into place.)

So that is the first of the shutdowns (Inverkething to Thornton) on. So expect a lot of work over the next ten days

Reportedly Bennochy road bridge is already in the process of being demolished.
Its gone. A photo from Kirkcaldy station take earlier this afternoon, along with a new signal which maybe to replace the one at the old bridge.
Think the large crane is for lifting the new deck into place which i heard was arriving overnight.

Some OLE progress around Dysart, Thornton Junction and Kirkcaldy respectively.

Are they future proofing a potential Dysart station with the current works?
I wouldn't hold your breath. If it's all songle track masts through the site, former or proposed, I'd say not.

To mitigate the risks of live infrastructure, most stations have TTC or Portal structures supporting the OLE through them nowadays (headspans were also used previously).

Is there much likelihood of a Dysart station? Seems that there are a other places that could probably give more benefit for the same or less money - for example Newburgh, or Errol.

I wouldn't have thought so. It's pretty close to KKY. Agree re Newburgh.
