Fichtelbergbahn

I’m looking into doing a round trip on the Fichtelbergbahn, changing from the train from Chemnitz onto the Fichtelbergbahn at Cranzahl.

A few questions if anyone has experience of using this service/connection:

1) Is the connection easy and a short walk from the Chemnitz service onto the narrow gauge Fichtelbergbahn?

2) Our Chemnitz service is due to arrive into Cranzahl at 12:55. The steam train is down for a 12:56 departure from Cranzahl. From what I’ve read online, this is to allow for a good connection and the connection would be held in the event of delays, but is this accurate?

3) From what I’ve read, tickets can only be purchased using cash at the station or onboard. I presume we’d be permitted to buy tickets onboard given the 1 minute connection won’t allow sufficient time to buy at the station?

If anyone has any advice and/or experiences of using the Fichtelbergbahn, please do share them, as it would be good to learn more about it!

When I last made this connection (about 10 years ago) - the two trains stopped quite close to each other . You can certainly buy a ticket on the train (the intermediate stations are not staffed). I think I bought tickets in the station and the train waited until everyone who needed to had done so.

I used it a couple of years ago. Both trains use the same station, though naturally different tracks.
I bought my ticket for the narrow gauge train on the train in cash as I didn’t find an open ticket office in Cranzahl

I visited it last week. The 1255 arrival made the 1256 departure (think it was 1 min late arriving). The Fichtelberg timetable states “timetable of RB80 …… without guarantee”. connection was cross platform
I got the arrival hour earlier - there appears to be nothing in the area of Cranzahl station).
Ticket purchased on board (€12 with a Deutschland ticket). Didn’t notice if they accepted cards.
