First Great Western for some reason, set the point of which delays are shown at 3 mins or more, this means that delays of less will not be shown and trains just say 'on time'. There was a period where the network started showing 1 and 2 minute delays early this summer, but it didn't last very long.

Other stations not mentioned also with these now are Dawlish Warren, Starcross and Camborne, all of which I must add were due to have a full system of sorts (screens and PA), but due to spending cuts the council funding was withdrawn or reduced and instead help points either with screens or just an extra yellow button for train information were installed.

Camborne has the had the screens a while now. It received them at the same time a batch of Thames Valley stations did early this year.

FGW seem to be having constant trouble with TVMs around this area. The Filton Abbey Wood one always seems to be faulty whenever I use this station, and Frome's one is regularly reported on Journey check as being out of order. Both Oldfield Park and Trowbridge's were removed at little while ago (the latter due to constant vandalism, not sure about the former though) and a few others at other stations are looking a bit ropey too (Bradford On Avon, Warminster)

I didn't know Oldfield Park actually has a blue painted booth on platform 1 though. Does this get used by FGW staff using Avantix? (Presumably during the morning peak?)

Oldfield Park's one was removed at least 5 years ago anyway, if not before that.

And yep, the booth is used in the morning peak by a member of staff selling tickets. Keynsham also has the same.

This actually made me wonder at the time, as 'Heard indefinitely' seems to be the exact opposite of 'caught FGW unaware on Monday when the lease expired'.

I thought that 'indefinitely' should possibly have meant 'it definitely', perhaps ml could look at it again?

Me thinks the 143's are definitely developing railbus dementia or delusions of grandeur now. We were waiting for at Newton for a connecting Plymouth service to arrive last night, when it started declaring itself a Wessex Alphaline service and that the trolley would be coming around shortly! If it wants to transform into a 158, fine by me!

Not heard that on a Pacer since I started commuting, so someone must have pressed a dusty button.

I was half tempted to ask the guard where the tea was when we got into Paignton, but he didn't look to be in the mood for it ;)

All the ex-Wessex units have the ability to make that announcement. The guard/driver can set it off. They can also announce the train as a Wales & Borders alphaline service.

On the subject of 158s, the Paignton - Cardiff has been a 158 pretty solidly over the last week or so now, I bet you've been pleased with this :lol:

I also note that a 158 seems to spend Saturday night at Exeter depot, before going back Sunday afternoon. No idea what it comes down/goes back on, or indeed why it comes down to Exeter.... traction knowledge is my only thought, it's not like Exeter depot has more facilities than their home depot.

It is a 158/9 and then works 08 04 Exeter to Cardiff on Sunday and then into Portsmouth workings from Cardiff

I'd forgotten that commuting on a sunday means travelling via a parallel universe!

Exeter stations dead quiet, three carriage 150 +153 on most of the metro and nary a Pacer to be seen! And the smaller stations like Dawlish Warren and Starcross were heaving with passengers. And they all got a seat! No waiting for intercity services either.....bliss

Next weekend, I shall take the....red pill to see what happens :lol:

On a Sunday I think they try and run all Metro services as 150/153 or 143/143.

I certainly haven't seen anything go past that's been just a two car today. And I do have a panoramic view of everything that leaves Exeter SD westwards... :roll::lol:
