I noticed a freshly-refurbished FGW 'Turbo' (after a check on 'Flickr' it turns out to be 166221) at Redhill yesterday evening on the 1741 to Gatwick. The unit has been named (they'll be naming 'Pacers' next!) 'Reading Traincare Depot', with a shield-shaped name plate between the front two windows on at least one end car (the standard class end). The livery looked a shade darker than previously but it may have been a combination of the time of day and the newness of the vinyls. There are no wavy pink lines either. I couldn't see whether the interior had been refurbished, but I would imagine so if it was thought to be worth naming the unit.

Please don't delete the closing [/QUOTE] tags (the tags are added automatically when you use the Quote button), otherwise it breaks the quote, and it will remain broken for all further replies if each person replying doesn't fix it...

I've not yet ridden in a refurbished 166 but I do hope Wolverton has done something about the hopelessly inadequate "air-conditioning". These units are very uncomfortable in hot weather. In summer I often alight at Oxford exhausted after surviving the sweat-soaked sauna that a 166 quickly becomes, despite all the "emergency" windows being opened. No doubt we'll find out in about six months' time!
