Hey oldies. I have just finished a tour working on a river cruise ship in France as a tour manager. The tour manager joining the same cruise in a couple of weeks is...78! The clients are mainly 70+ so age is very much an advantage in that job.

Assessment Centre dates should be on their way to applicants now for this. There is a lot of applicants (but then there have been a lot of depots too). Got an e-mail today for an assessment (though I'm already a Conductor so it appears to have been sent to me in error, so internal candidates who are already Conductors who do get an e-mail about it should not fret. It appears some names may have got drowned by the sheer number of applicants and mixed in with others.)

Just be patient, as there are a lot of people to get through. Those who haven't heard anything yet should be hearing soon hopefully. Good luck to everyone applying :)

Under the new RIS-3751-TOM, which covers the EU requirement for new drivers, there may be a requirement for everyone applying for a trainee drivers post to undergo assessments regardless of current role.

That's great. But I'm not applying for a drivers position. I've applied for another Guards role (Conductor - Train Manager). I'm awaiting a re-set on drivers results (which has either happened or about to). Supposed to be making it harder, which is fine by me. I failed on the Structured Interview on that. My example just wasn't good enough...

I've not yet received anything for Swansea. Have received my practice materials though. Waiting patiently for the email saying this is your day! My friend, who will be my future housemate, is rather less patient though! Good luck, all.
Any other Swansea applicants here?

They are still carrying out assesments at the moment. There are 60 people per assesment day, so it will be a few weeks yet before anyone finds out. They did Plymouth yesterday

That's odd, they told me that we should find out by Friday next week (today). I hope we do. Good luck to your mum. We had 41 at ours and the lady said they'd got test all that week aswel. So a lot of people over all.

I attended the assessment for an FirstGreatWestern Train Manager vacancy on Thursday 24th October in Cardiff, at 10.30am. Was told I would hear by Sunday just past, however not heard anything yet. Anyone else heard anything about this?
I thought I'd give the recruitment team a call and double-check, so I searched the forum for a direct number in Aberdeen, but all I can find is an 0845 number. I'm obviously not looking hard enough. :P

Edit: Never mind. A bit more detective work, and I've managed to find it.

I got my reply three weeks after I was told I would. I guess they are very busy. Good luck.

All,

I'm waiting to hear back from my interview for trainee train driver with FGW, I was told that I would hear within a fortnight either way.
It has now been six weeks and nothing, despite me attempting to contact them.
The recruitment team deal with all roles and just seem to be ridiculously overworked.

Have patience, don't let it take over your life (like me). Good luck!

I didn't call them in the end, I've been too distracted by other things. A good decision, I would say... As I received an email on my phone during my driving lesson this afternoon (I looked after the lesson finished l, of course!) and I PASSED! So, interview next! And stage 2 for Trainee Train Driver too. Busy few months!
Sigh. Such a relief to receive that email.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
And now a week later, I have my interview date and time. 21st November, 2013 at 11:30am in Swansea Train Station. Eeeeeep. Nervous now!

I had my contact saying I am through to the next stage on the 31/10 but haven't had an interview time/date set up yet... Very nervous. From what I understand this is the last stage before medical, don't know what to expect either.

I am in the same boat. Has anyone had the interview yet. Does it include all the areas mentioned in the assessment pack or is it the typical 'why do you want the job?'

I am in the same boat. I wonder if they are interviewing as and when vacancies arise?

My Train Manager Interview on Thursday went well, from what I am able to say from my point of view. The rabbit-hole (or rat's corridors, as the Guard Manager called it!) that is the staff and offices area of Swansea train station was interesting to see at least!
I am rather nervous, as today is the earliest the Guard Manager I met with and was interviewed by said I would hear back. Needless to say really, but it's not only my fingers that are crossed right now!

Trust me these things go on for months! I applied for a Network Rail job last February and didn't interview until July. I have applied for the conductor job at Par and have passed the assessment so just waiting to hear what happens next. The advert did say it was a 9 month process so I am not going to chase them up yet. Good luck!

All the train manager positions for Swansea, Cardiff and Bristol have all had people appointed the the positions. All of them were internal people too, Bristol was all Guards, with Swansea and Cardiff all Customer Hosts.

I can only hope they give us a chance to go for positions at other places. You've named everywhere I put down but did state I'm more than happy to travel. Oh well keep on trying...

Had an email last month saying thankyou for your application for the guard vacancy at weymouth etc . as I had passed assessments in October I assumed this meant an interview. The Weymouth post came up in December. Anyway last week I got another email saying I had been unsuccessful but was being placed back in the applicants pool! I checked the fgw site and this shows the vacancy has been withdrawn so I am none the wiser. Coming on 9 months now and I would have to say communication isn't fgw's strong point. :-\
