FGW train faults

In summer, I prefer to use the 150s/153s if I can, more opening windows. I don't find the 4 windows in 158 carriages do a great job regulating temperature (but obviously would rather have them open when aircon is faulty).

I wonder if it will be much the same when the 166s arrive. Mind you, replacing 25-30 year old trains with 25 year old trains, I'm not expecting every problem to be solved. Would be good if the 158s'/166s' aircons do get sorted though. It's been long overdue.

Often if the air conditioning is not working properly then it is blowing out warm air, which can be why having the windows open on a 158 doesn't help as much. I found that to be the case with a 166 last year, which was much warmer than a 165 I'd travelled on just before it.

Is there much difference atm between the air con in the 158s and what SWTs have in their 159s?

Let's hope overhaul means replacement i.e. conversion to the Liebherr system or some other modern supplier. That said whilst the Liebherr units are more likely to be working, I don't particularly rate their effectiveness.

Had a slight delay on the 0913 out of Paignton yesterday due to one of the doors on a 150 not locking properly. Luckily we were at Dawlish Warren when they tried to sort it out. Still got to work quarter of an hour early!

Not quite as 'exciting' as the chap who jumped off the platform in front of me on the way home, thankfully.

Had a slight delay on the 0913 out of Paignton yesterday due to one of the doors on a 150 not locking properly. Luckily we were at Dawlish Warren when they tried to sort it out.

Was it a 150/2 by any chance? These units tend to have problems with certain doors sticking when they try to close. One got jammed open a little while ago but it was just given a pull and it closed. Never seen 150/1s' doors sticking.

I haven't really been keeping an eye on journey check today but I noticed the 14:50 Great Malvern - Weymouth was delayed again, apparently the train developed a fault between Cheltenham Spa and Gloucester. It terminated at Temple Meads about 45 mins late but a replacement unit was sourced and ran to time from Bristol, though from the platform announcements it sounded like it was a 2 car unit; advising the passengers who couldn't get on, the next available service they could get.

When I was waiting for my train home the "Bristolian" (Paddington - BTM) was announced as cancelled due to a train fault.

Also caught the 9am from Cardiff to London this morning, which departed from platform 2. Felt odd departing to be honest!

Sunday mornings can be weird. They get stabled overnight and it depends on where it gets put the night before. Mind you, it's not unusual for HST's to go off Two on a Sunday.

'Twas a 150/1. It was running with a 143, so may have caught Pacer Cooties.

Rear power car of the 0740 out of Paignton conked out this morning, so Torquay and Torre were missed out to insufficient power to gradient ratio. Was running about 4 mins late when I left at St Davids.

Middle coaches on both 165 and 166s often get removed if faults occur, as it saves having to take the whole set out of service.

Isn't the 2-coach 166, 166214, the middle coach removed following a mild fire last September?
