I'm sure this must have been discussed on here but I can't find any threads about it.

I was in London a fortnight or so ago travelling back to Bristol on a cheapo advance First, and for once, they were checking tickets before you got on in First, with guards at each of the doors to coaches H,G and F.

How long have they been doing this and is it a long-term plan or just a trial? Why are they now doing it?

I presume they must have had complaints from passengers travelling in First at the late stream of passengers travelling in standard flooding through the carriages as the train is about to leave? However, they need to have 3 people on 'guard' at each of the entrances so can't be cheap?!

The best way to solve that problem would be to reverse the formation.

That way the 1st class passengers would be closest to the East bound Circle line platforms - perfect for people who work in The City.

You do get some people walking through who like to make snide comments and stare at you!

FGW carried out a survey, and the result was overwhelmingly in favour of retaining the current formation.

Was that survey carried out before or since the taxi rank was moved to its current location near the new H&C entrance ?
