Having just watched ep 3 of the BBC series, I was surprised to see hot food offered during the 1st class service on FGW. I've only experienced 1st class with this TOC on one occasion. It was a weekday service from Cheltenham to Paddington in the middle of the afternoon. It wasn't a Bank Holiday.
I was very surprised to see just one member of staff offering tea or coffee in a paper cup with a pack of cheesey biscuits just once. Thankfully for me, I had bought an advance ticket but still, I thought "is this it"??
Even on VT, during the week, you're offered a choice of sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, hot drinks and alcohol all on china plates and mugs lais out on the table. I remember reading a forum around the time were the comments seemed to suggest that First had dispensed with their normal 1st class services on all routes. Is this actually the case or do they only offer a service during limited times and on limited routes? I would have thought the Cheltenham service was one of their main routes and considering the time, well over 2 hours, I would have expected a service akin to VT or EC.
I may be using them again soon and would like to hear any views regarding their 1st service and when/what is available
