FGW farce + 57301

[Nat the Ned]

Tuesdays 1C81 10:05 Paddington to Penzance HST failed at Largin (between Liskeard and Bodmin). Virgin's 57301 was sent from Plymouth to assist, however by the time the loco reached Largin the HST had been coaxed back to life and it ran under its own power to Bodmin and terminated 123 late. HST then went ECS back to Laira. the 57/3 which was behind carried on to Penzance (acting as a crew taxi) before piloting 57602 back to Plymouth on the up sleeper. Got a pic of it at Par.

Seemed like a farce in Cornwall yesterday with the 1205 cut short at Plymouth!

Another fine farce in Cornwall tonight, 1A35 17:35 Penzance to Paddington failed at Camborne, required fire brigade (not sure how severe). 15:05 Paddington to Penzance caped Plymouth to run 1A35 right time from there. Cornish London passengers to go by taxi. Various other local services in the area a mess as a result.

FGW continue to provide interesting photo oppurtunities with their daily failures. Friday nights sleeper failed at Penzance so a HST was used in its place. Therefore Saturday morning there are two sleeper sets in Penzance, one is booked to run to Plymouth to start Sunday nights train there (due to engineering work), the other should be in London!! Therefore both sets are combined producing the sight of 57603+57602 and load 13 working a 5A77 Penzance to Laira (Pic). One of these sets should go ECS Laira to Paddington on Sunday.
