Am doing the FGW diversions tomorrow, both the diversion routes, first via Banbury then out of Waterloo, will leave from Tiverton Parkway on 15.37pm to Bristol Temple Meads or Parkway, then either 16.29 Temple Meads- Paddington or 17.01 Bristol Parkway-Paddington, both via Foxhall Curve-Banbury-Greenford-Paddington, then underground to Waterloo, then the 21.07 FGW to Tiverton Parkway for 23.58, hopefully be good running on both diversions. is anyone else doing these trains tomorrow? will report on trip tomorrow night.

Here's my report on FGW diversions trip on Monday evening.........

Having been at work all day, once finished last job, drove to Tiverton Parkway and parked up, was earlier than expected so caught the 14.57 cross country service to Bristol Temple Meads via Weston Super Mare, was usual voyager unit, no time to get unit number, we waited for FGW 150 unit to come off Weston loop, before we could go on to it, we arrived Temple Meads on time.

Had 30 mins before catching 16.29 to London Paddington via Oxford and Banbury, didnt get unit number, left on time, picked up a lot of passengers at Bath Spa and the train was pretty full as far as Oxford, we were within a few minutes of time all the way to London, when arrived at Oxford the platform was heaving, and all got on my train, which meant was rammed full with passengers standing throughout the train, have not seen a train that full or for so long, was about 100 mins to Paddington, we had quick reversal at Banbury, the doors were un locked and some passengers walked down train probably to try find seat, had good run down Chiltern mainline till we turned off for Greenford branch, was very slow and we closely followed the Central line for quite a lot of the way, was a bit of a stagger, passed another train going the other way we came onto mainline by Old Oak common depot and North Pole old Eurostar depot, was an interesting end to diversion, we arrived 4 mins early.

Had 100 mins till catching 21.07 FGW service from Waterloo to Tiverton Parkway, so went looking for some grub, felt like Kebab but couldnt find suitable place so ended up having chicken and Mushroom pie and chips for 4.50, was average quality, then ate them on station, the 21.07 went from platform 11, left on time, didnt get unit number again, was extremely quiet, was almost more crew than passengers, the host took just £18.00 in money to when he cashed up, after Westbury got chatting to host and train managers, lots of banter and ribbing going on between them which was funny, made me laugh, they were sat in first class seating in buffet car, had good chat, the run out of London was good, was following the 21.05 Waterloo to Poole which we caught up at Woking, had double amber, stuck head out window, then greens to just outside Basinstoke, had ambers again, arrived about 2 mins down, left 8 mins late due to service bringing relief crew in being 36 mins late, found was due to losing electric supply, manager had to go under train, due to leaving late we had clear run through Salisbury, was due 5 mins pathing stop at Salisbury Tunnel jct, which didn't need, arrived Westbury on time where we reversed then normal run onwards. had been interesting trip.

No wonder the train was rammed as you say. Similar to trying to get a quart in a pint pot as the saying goes and which happens when you have a reduced level of service.

Just a minor comment. The line from Northolt Junction to Old Oak is not "the Greenford branch" though of course you passed Greenford. That branch runs from the bay between the Central line platforms there and down to West Ealing.
