FGW Depot Reading

If anybody that works at the FGW Depot in Reading could just answer this question I would appreciate it.

If you get the train to work and get off at Reading station, how do you get to the actual depot? Do you have to leave the station and find your way there or is there a way of getting there by not leaving the station?

AFAICT from the point of view of a passenger, there is a dedicated walkway from the end of P1/P2. It has a white light safety signalling system where it passes over Caversham Rd bridge because there is limited clearance between the track and the bridge steelwork.

sorry, should have made myself more clear, point of view as an employee. (a trainee to be more precise, getting to the classroom area from the main station)

also, as a driver if you finish your early shift at reading station and you need to get back to the depot where your car is parked.

Absolutely correct.

Anyone going to the depot on foot needs to sign the route, so anyone untrained would need to be accompanied. Or there'll be taxis from the main station.

That's what I thought. My earlier reply was a badly worded attempt to say that the pedestrian route to the depot is pretty obvious even to someone who's only access to the station is as a passenger. Once you know that the route starts at the end of P1/P2 it is easily traceable on something like Google Maps satellite view.

Is there no security gate to get through from the platform then? from google maps it looks like you would have to cross the tracks further up in the depot to get across to the training centre?

The depot is accessible off Great Knollys Street.. a 10-15 minute walk from the station. It's accessed under a rail bridge.

Sorry for the thread hijack but do the fgw depots have staff carparks? I only ask because ive applied for Pad depot but could make Reading at a push if i can drive to the depot. At least that would give me a better chance.

There seemed to me that there was plenty of parking at reading depot. nice security guard on the gate, wishing me luck with my interview, then saying hope to see you in the future when I left.
