Hi all I have an interview and assessment for a qualified guard based at Exeter next week

And can someone tell me what routes and traction I will be working out of Exeter and what kind of depot is it friendly etc and how many conductors and drivers are there

And any kind of info would be useful

Many thanks

The traction will be Class 143s, 150s and 153s. A few 158s do venture down there, but I am sure they are crewed by Bristol.

Don't know much more than that though

Exeter crews sign 143s, 150s, 153s and 158s.

Exeter conductors sign Cardiff via Taunton and Bristol, Penzance via Plymouth, Westbury, Paignton, Barnstaple etc.

Exeter also has a 'mixed traction' link where Conductors are 'promoted' to Train Managers and then work HST jobs as well as the local units.

On the West side (just units), I understand that there is quite a pecking order, with the newbies being entered into a link involving predominantly branch line work. It's very intensive work, lots of stop-start with stations 2 or 3 minutes apart, and very busy during summer, and just the odd longer run like Bristol. The work improves as you gain seniority through the links with the 'old boys' doing the decent longer distance stuff like Cardiff and regular Bristols etc.

I understand it's a friendly enough place though, so it all depends on what sort of work you enjoy doing!
