FGW Classroom location(s)?

Do FGW train at each individual depot across the franchise, or do they have a 'central' location for all classroom training?

Although I have a flat to move in to in the near future close to my 'chosen' depot (Oxford) I will be 'doing an Alan Partridge' and living in a Travelodge for a few weeks. It would obviously be daft to stay in Oxford if the training takes place in say Padders or Reading.

Pete...clearly I can't help much with FGW specific, however if they are similar to FTPE then they may well have a centrally located training facility. We are going to be using Huddersfield Trg Academy apparently!

Ref Alan Partridge....I'm sure I've got a Corby Trouser Press manual somewhere, if you aren't already qualled that is. Just don't forget to optimise the mirror angle in the bathroom so you can see the telly from the bath

More then likely vast majority will be at the training school at Reading Depot as that's where the simulators are for the turbos. Certain lessons like Train evacuation, you may find yourself down at St Phillips Marsh.

Not daft at all to stay at your flat in Oxford, may as well enjoy some home comforts. I'm commuting daily from Oxford to Reading Depot (Train Movement Controllers Course). I don't think training start times will be too early for you not to be able to catch a train and of course you will have your staff travel pass!

Thanks all. The flat won't be ready for a few weeks so I'll get plenty of practice on the trouser press, Reading looks a bit cheaper than Oxford for accommodation. Anyhoo got an idea of what's ahead.

the lads who started in November have been to Paddington, Swindon and Bristol, not sure about Reading though due to the building works ( I am lead to believe that usually Reading is the training place for all Thames Vallley drivers). I think Paddington has been the main place from conversations I have had with one of them. Remember that the course is not comprised of just one depot though so you might have Oxford, Bristol, Reading and Paddington drivers on the same course which is why the course is usually run at a central location (I know Padders is not central).

I'm also starting on the 4th being based at Bristol. From the rumours I've heard parts are at Bristol & PADD, aswell as Exeter & Gloucester!

Think until the day comes its best just go keep a open blank mind on locations
