Ffestiniog Round Robin

I’m looking to do the above trip, but whilst planning it I’m getting myself very confused and I wonder if some of you on here could help me please?

The first question I have is, why can’t a ranger or rover ticket be bought online? I feel quite nervous about potentially getting on a train with no ticket.

Second question, my nearest station is Wem, in north Shropshire. I am planning on travelling anti clockwise for the day but I wish to travel via Gobowen, as I’ve never been that way before. Am I allowed to board at Wem, travel to Shrewsbury, and then off to gobowen and then when I return, travel through Shrewsbury again back to Wem?

Next query, the train into Blaenau Ffestiniog arrives at 11.30 and the steam train portion of the trip leaves at 11.35. Is this adequate time, I can’t work out whether both trains are in the same station or not etc?

When I decided to do this trip I thought I’d have a day hopping on and off at will, but to be honest trying to make everything ‘fit’ I’ve found hard work!!

Five minutes is more than enough time, the platforms are next to each other. I expect they'd delay the steam train if the other one was late anyway.

The only problem I had making this trip, which I do to/from Chester, is that although hopping on and ff is great due to the distance involved and the timetable restraints, it does require you to spend a couple of long portions on trains and you can't do as many stops as you'd like.

I can see no issues with going Wem - Shrewsbury - Gobowen - Chester - Llandudno Junction - Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The FR always hold the 1135 for the Conwy Valley connection unless it is very late.
