Fenchurch Street to Heathrow Terminals 123

A colleague of mine has to travel from London Fenchurch Street station to/from Heathrow Airport (Terminal 3) on a Friday afternoon in a few weeks time.

The two travel alternatives that occurred to me were (i) London Underground (Tower Hill to Heathrow Airport 1,2,3 by way of District Line, Piccadilly line) or (ii) London Underground (Tower Hill to Paddington by way of Circle Line) then Heathrow Connect.

What would be the relative cost of these two alternatives, both timewise and in £££, or can someone suggest a better alternative?

Colleague has an Annual Gold Card (Outstation to/from London Terminals).

Cheapest will probably be Oyster all the way on LU. But it may be possible to get a Gold Card discounted ticket from Stratford to Heathrow with cross London transfer included. I can't check the price of this at the moment.

A Gold Card day return from Limehouse to Heathrow is £30.35 (day single is £15.50). Same for Stratford.
It would be cheaper to Oyster, or even a paper ticket Tower Hill-Paddington, and then get an open return to Heathrow, priced at £21.10 any permitted, or £9.65 not valid on Heathrow Express.

Journey Planner reckons that using Heathrow Express is only 5-10 minutes quicker than tube all the way so Heathrow Connect wouldn't really save any time over the Piccadilly Line. Oyster fares are only £3.80/£2.20 (depending on time) all the way (or cash is £4).
