Fen Line issues until 18th September

A speed restriction over defective track is affecting Fen Line services between Kings Lynn & London Kings Cross until 18th September. Not good for those of us who need to use the route daily. Trains are cancelled at last minute and, if any run, they are only going to Cambridge.

This is a regular problem on this route and it seems to happen every few years. Is this just lack of investment and maintenance by network rail or a bigger issue?

Presumably it's similar to the issues that plague the Breckland line in that area.

All the lines in that area are laid on earthworks built on reclaimed swamp so it's travelling across blancmange at times. Its a geophysical issue rather than a pure railway issue.

The long dry summer has caused problems across the Fens & in areas where the lines have been built on Clay. Essex has its issues to with this. Splitting the Kings Lynn/Kings X at Cambridge is the best option else you transfer all these problems onto the busiest section unnecessarily.

Without rehashing the other discussion, they have removed the King's Cross to Cambridge fast services leaving only an hourly stopper. The connecting services at Cambridge north / southbound are not timed to take over, there's a 30 minute wait. My 2 hour door to door commute is now 2.5 hours. It would be more but I'm leaving work early to get a St Pancras fast instead of the replacement 1h33 King's Cross rubbish.

My boss was asking me if it would be better to make the time up by staying late (getting in 20-30 mins late) rather than taking annual leave or unpaid as I'm doing now.
The explanation - it'd likely mean getting home about an hour before going to bed!

Which shuttles have they cancelled, is it the Cambridge - King's Lynn? I got the Norwich train back yesterday and it was heaving.
