I was wondering whether any analysis is done of the scanning records from guards’/RPI’s records, and if there’s any follow up.
Today a guy across from me had an Advance ticket from a different station at a different time to the train he was on. His destination was correct, and it was the same TOC (TPE). After a lengthy discussion the guard said he’d allow it this time, but he drummed home the restrictions of Advance tickets. Fair play to him he spent ages having the conversation, and the bloke didn’t really say anything except “they said it would be okay at the gates”.
The ticket was on his phone so I wondered whether there would be any repercussions, and if it would be flagged up as an anomaly, or would it fall under the guard’s permitted discretion?
