Fee evasion, what next?

Hi, i have been uk since 3 years and paying tfl charges regularly. Recently i had some financial trouble and maybe around 50 times in last 2 months, i used a friends old card to just tap out as the initial gate was open. In these time, i used to tap correctly as well when i have money. I was stopped yesterday
At a different station and said will recieve letter from court. Whan are the realistic expectation of fare, case and all? Please help. When aksed, i was honest to the offficer. Cooperated completwly

Stratford high street to charing cross was the usual royte. But yeaterday they got me from liverpool street

Who actually stopped and interviewed you, Was it TfL staff or Greater Anglia staff?

Unfortunately TFL prosecute in almost all cases. It is possible that you could be issued with a warning. Enlisting the help of a solicitor could help with this, and forum members can provide contact details, but this would obviously come at a cost.

Look out for contact from TFL and make sure that you reply and continue to cooperate. When a letter arrives, post it on here with personal details redacted.

If you're in trouble with TfL for serious and premeditated fare evasion like this you need a solicitor to stand any chance of not being prosecuted. Else, you will be going to court, where you will be convicted, fined according to your income, have to pay TfL's costs, the fares evaded, and a surcharge. The conviction will be spent after a year.
