I have had to take SWT to Guildford and then change onto an XC that had gone fast from Fareham via Havant. In 2013. Probably on diversion.

During the Reading junction rebuilding XC often diverted via Havant and Guildford at weekends, so XC running via Havant was fairly common during that period. (Travelling from Godalming to the Midlands it was very useful, allowing arrival up to an hour earlier than using FGW from Guildford to Reading and changing again there.)

I believe one of the main reasons Guildford still has a XC service is the maintenance of route knowledge via Havant and Fareham.

I still cannot find where the current standards require that or the terminal platform requirements. I've had a good look. The latest standard I'm reading is 07/03/2015.

From the Guidance Notes

they are old signals (or they look it anyway) so maybe that is no longer a requirement

No doubt.

I would also wonder what is considered "starting from rest" If you are on a platform then if you are booked to stop then you "start from rest" With your example and from what I've been reading. The readability factor would be for through services so anything booked not to stop and going at linespeed will need to use "feathers" as they are used for long range sighting.

I can understand if its been dropped because of the human factors being a much more important part of the decision in which indication to use.

By current standards, junction indicators cannot be used for routes into, or out of, terminal platform lines. They cannot be provided on any signal where all trains start from rest.

I don't know if it has changed but the approach to high Wycombe bay on the down has flashing yellow aspects and a feather into the bay but this may have changed since I went there. Of course with new signalling or resignalling I doubt this would now happen.

Yes, that is an oddity and, as far as I know, unique. Standards don't allow flashing yellows into bay platforms.
