As a non-employee, but a rail passenger, I have to say that the vast majority of FCC staff seem happy and usually manage a smile and a good sense of humour - given some testing situations of late (and I can't imagine what it's like on the TL route). Nevertheless, I see it as a company that I'd be happy to work for.
Sadly, recent changes in management has affected my overall perception of the company as a whole. However, the company did resolve my problem with a perfectly legal ticket combination and - once again - suggests that despite management perhaps not being as good as in the past, they employ some good people below to get the job done.
Information provision has always been a big problem for FCC, but they now have at least one very dedicated person on Twitter effectively providing all the detail throughout the day and often late into the night. This person (Ally) should be getting a very decent salary!
Even if FCC loses the franchise, it's those staff below management level that will be protected under TUPE and will hopefully continue to work well for whoever takes over. Mind you, when a franchise merges with another - that must have some implications as staff from one or both existing franchise may move to a totally different part of town/country.
