HI, Im off to londo soon and want to travel on the thameslink service. I would like to know what trains usually run the service. Ive seen videos of 377's, would it be them?

It'll either be 377s or 319s - they're the only dual voltage units in use on that line.

I believe (though others who know better will be able to confirm) that the longer-distance i.e. To / From Bedford services are more likely to be 377s, whilst the shorter distance To / From Luton / St Albans are more likely to be 319s.

The last time I travelled the route (in early September), It's a bit hazy, but I'm pretty sure I had a 319 for all of the journeys I made between Bedford and London. I did see 377s operating to Bedford, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly 319s. Of course it was more than 3 months ago, so things could have changed. It's also possible it varies by the time of day, as I travelled between 9.30 and 4.30 on all of my trips.

All Luton/St Albans to Sutton and Kentish Town to Sevenoaks services are 319's, Brighton to Bedfords are a mixture of 319's and Electothings and Bedford-Ashford and Rochester (Peaks only) are exclusively Electrothing.

One more thing. Can you use an all zone london travelcard on fcc and how far can i use it in each direction? if you get what i mean, Thanks

A Z1-6 travelcard is valid on the Thameslink route between Elstree & Borehamwood on the north side and Purley on the south, as well as at all the stations on the Streatham/Wimbledon/Sutton loop. On the Great Northern route they are valid as far as Crews Hill and Hadley Wood.

I wasn't aware FCC stopped at Purley these days! They were fast from East Croydon (zone 5) to Redhill or Gatwick (both outside the zone area) when I worked for Thameslink.

When are you going to do this? Best doing it in the week off peak, as there are 20 diagrams (20 4 car trains running tho normally as 8 car trains).

If you look in the new timetable above some services there are pink stars on the 377 booked services. This way you don't need the diagrams to have an idea which are 377 trains. Note that due to failed trains and swaps etc that you can't say 100% they are 377 until they've left Bedford.

If your doing weekends note that only two 8 cars trains work between Bedford and St Pancras on saturday only. Only 377 on a sunday is one 8 car running between London Bridge and Brighton all day.

When the Central London section is open its normal to have a single 8 car 377 working tho there have been two 8 cars before now.

As for using a travelcards, as the 377 go fast (outside the peaks) from St Pancras your only going to be able to ride from St Pancras to East Croydon which isn't too bad a run.

They don't! They are all fast to Gatwick apart from 2 Redhil services a day.
