FCC Super Off Peak- extra discount

FCC are taking an extra 10% off Super Off Peak tickets on all tickets except those that are entirely within the London Travelcard zones for this month.

For the next four weekends, passengers get an additional 10% discount on First Capital Connect’s 25%-plus cheaper ‘Super Off Peak’ fare.

The extra discount is running until 24 November across the entire First Capital Connect network with the exception of journeys that both start and finish within the London Travelcard zone.


This means passengers will now save up to 32.5% on their off-peak ticket when compared to the off-peak day return fare.


On top of that, railcards will give a further one-third off meaning passengers could make significant savings.


First Capital Connect Managing Director David Statham said:
“Many families may have chosen to stay at home during last weekend’s stormy weather when we launched the added discount but there’s another chance during the half term to take up this fantastic offer – and we’ll keep it running until 24 November.”


Last month First Capital Connect extended its 25%-plus Super Off-Peak discount to nearly all its fares. This extra 10% for a month is intended to give passengers still greater value for money.

One result of this is that a Cambridge-London Super Off Peak Day Return route "Any permitted" is (without a railcard) £1 cheaper than the "Route: Greater Anglia only" ticket (which is normally cheaper as it is a slower route)

The more interesting one is Southern's new restriction tucked away in their T&C's for their 10% off of off peak tickets offer. It's not valid on Gat Express services at all and yet is available for tickets such as Lewes to London route any permitted which of course is valid on Gat Express and nowhere does it say during booking your ticket won't be allowed. Another money making scam Southern are using to milk money unfairly from passengers using GEx.

Excellent, so now a day out in London (once the extra 3% cashback from my credit card is added) will cost all of £4.61

Must be greatly amusing for the passengers that the fares went down when Super Off Peak was rolled out across the FCC network, then after a couple of weeks went down again for this promotion.

There are another set of new fares too - joint FCC/FHT Only walk up fares.

Very strange this, bought a SS return with Network card yesterday from Ely to Lynn and it was £3.25 (bought this at the desk) today I buy the same ticket but this time from a vending machine and it was £3.65

Sounds like the £3.25 ticket had the 10% discount incorrectly applied.

There is an issue with the discounted fares not correctly loading to the machines it would seem.

Probably the same problem as when FCC had an offer on a year or so ago when the super offpeak travelcards were available at off-peak times during the week in the school holidays - normally they are only available at weekends. However, these lower prices could not be purchased from a TVM for tickets dated for a weekday. They could only be bought online or from the ticket office.

Another issue is the £2.00 flat fare for accompanied children - they are available valid for travel with adults using Super Off Peak fares, but don't show up in the TVMs or TiS systems, so the clerk is required to print off an Off Peak fare for the child instead.
