Which three 319s are FCC giving up and which 377/2s will move from southern?
Hopefully one of the southern liveried 319s will leave <D

Will southern refurbish loaned 377s with carpets at vestibule areas and Blue side panels the main improvements

In terms of the 377/2s, FCC already have 377207, 377211 and 377212. The units down to move at the moment are 377208/209/210/213/214/215. As a result, FCC should end up with 377207-377215.

Where will the 319s go?

The Southern livered units aren't leaving yet. The 319/3 have now been chosen to leave first. The 319/2 will go during the 700 fleet introduction.

3x 319s are to be returned to Porterbrook, the other 3x 319s are to cover the 319 fleet under going C4 exams.

Also if we're talking about FCC you have 2x 317 covering for 2x 365 while work is done on the fleet.

Southern is in the process of refurbishing the 377/2 fleet along the lines of the /1 fleet. Not sure what units have been done.

Is that a serious question? Have you missed all the previous stuff about them probably going to Northern?

To be fair Northern is a large franchise.
I am assuming they will be used on Manchester to Liverpool services from December 2014.

At the current time all the 319s aren't expected to move to Northern but the first ones released are subject to a lease being agreed between Northern and Porterbrook. A number of 319s were originally intended to go to FGW but it isn't certain whether FGW will get them or where they'll go if FGW don't get them.

As Northern are unable to sign any long term deal for the 319s at present it's expected no refurbishment work will be carried out on them until Porterbrook have agreed a long term lease with the next franchise operator or another operator.

... as does all the 'previous stuff' to which I refer.

The connection between these EMUs and the newly electrified lines (in Northern's area) is so blindingly obvious I didn't feel it worth mentioning. I mean how many other threads is it discussed in now?

FCC can have the 377/2s. They are by far and away our worst ones to drive IMO. I wonder if there is a direct correlation between driving them at 100mph / braking at those speeds, and why they seem sluggish, and weaker to brake.

I prefer the 377/5s but once you get them on to AC they all really shift!

I thought the 3 377/2's with FCC were on loan and later to be returned to Southern once then Thameslink fleet is in operation, then they will go back on to the Milton Keynes?

Or will this be a full fleet of 8 car 377/7 sets?

I should imagine the 377/7s will be redistributed elsewhere on the network when the /2s return to MKC services.

I dunno, someone told me (by that I mean he *thinks* what is supposed to happen) that there is only a small batch of 377/7's so that they can pair with 377/2's to make an 8 car set, or pair's of 377/7's running around along with pair's of 377/2's.

Obviously there isn't enough /2's to do this already I guess, or they would have probably done 8 car sets on these by now

Id suggest someone is confused as an five car 377/7 and an four car 377/2 would make a nine car.

The 377/7 and 377/2 are not going to be used together at all (there's a good reason for it and why you don't see the 377/6 in use with other 377 units). From May there will be the same 5 'diagrams' on Milton Keynes but 4 will be five car 377/7 and the '5th' an 8 car 377/2.

There is also supposed to be two 377/7 out on the South London Metro, I believe its supposed to replace the 4+3+3 that's still in use to free up the 377/2 to go to Thameslink.

Long term (like 2017 depending on the winning TSGN bidder) will see the 377's freed to allow the Milton Keynes service to go to 2tph of 8 car length (at least for peak) which requires around 20 dual voltage units + spares (based on current 5 requirement) with TSGN having a total of 38 units to choose from.

Far from just 1 3+3+4 set out on Metro workings. There are several 3+3+4 sets out on Metro work now with less 377/3s working to East Grinstead than before December. I guess the 377/7s not in use on the Milton Keynes route will just get used in a similar way to the other 377/2s do currently but instead of just turning up on all sorts of 4-car diagrams the /7s will work 5-car diagrams. I'd guess there won't be any problems coupling 377/7s to /6s.

It's all well and good chastising someone for asking a question, to which you yourself aren't certain of the answer.

Sorry to bump this thread. I've seen suggestions today that 319362/363/365 are three of the first to go. Although nothing concrete as of yet.

SN have recently refreshed 377208/210/213/214/215, which is 5 of the 6 that will transfer to FCC. They will also refresh 207/211/213, the 3 currently on loan to FCC, soon. It'll be done one at a time, with one of the 6 set to move to go over to replace it.

Thanks what about the 377/5s?

Aren't they comparatively much newer - they went direct to FCC from new build, they really ought not need any interior work yet. Without looking them up aren't they about 5 or 6 years younger then the 377/2 fleet?

Hmmm but the Absence of guards most likely means they have been trashed <D

The 377/5s are in a much better condition that some of the other 377s were. The 377/2s in use with FCC are markedly worse than the 377/5s and in need of a bit of a spruce up. The newest 377s other than the /5s, the /4s, which are around 4 years younger, have been given the same refurbishment as the rest of the 377s.

They don't go around the Wimbledon Loop, they're hardly used on the overnights, and most of the time they're too full to get trashed.

They can't currently be used in 8 car formations around the loop. Overnight usage has increased recently but they are less than 25% of the Thameslink fleet.

Some of the 377/5s still look fairly worn, but I do think that's down to the colour of the seat covers.

I don't think they're actually worn out, but they look faded and that gives the impression they're worn out. I'm no fan of the Southern interiors, it should be said (so expect me to be biased!).

Ditto with the seats on the Victoria line. They looked worn out about 20 seconds after entering service...

The 377 on my route through St Mary Cray are definitely not in need of any kind of refurb/refresh. Although I do agree that the seat covers look faded, but that's hardly worth spend large amounts of money to put right!
Especially given the franchise is about to change which may result in internal changes anyway...

Does anyone know why they don't operate on the loop? Not that I don't mind, just curious. I did hear yonks ago something about the line not being cleared for 377's, but then that doesn't make much sense, as there was (or maybe still is) a Southern 377 diagram round the loop on the London Bridge peak hour circular.

not 100% sure why but one made it half way around in service before it was pulled. Pis and gps is all set up. I think its just not been cleared internally for them to run. Although with the 319 loss coming up there is talk of 377's getting booked diagrams around there.
