FCC driver training

Hi all, have applied to fcc and have my assessments in Jan, was just wondering if anyone could tell me where the actual driver training takes place if successful and travel arrangements.

I have applied for the Cambridge position if it helps.

All driver training will be at hornsey depot. You get free FCC travel so won't pay for it. Are you qualified or trainee? Qualified drivers get paid travel time from depot to hornsey (2hours for a camb driver every day I believe). As far as I know trainees don't get paid traveling time as they can move you to other depots during training.

In that case training is at hornsey to start with. You don't pay for travel on FCC but I don't think they pay trainees travel time.

When you go out with a DI they will put you with one normally who lives near you or at the depot closest to you, not always the one you are applying for (they may swap dis halfway through if you need route knowledge etc-you need a cambs or Lynn DI to sign the Lynn road as the other 3 depots don't go there.

Thanks for the info so far been really helpful, when you say not paid travelling I was under the impression that trainees are salaried so a flat rate per month so to speak?

Once again sorry about all the questions, just need to make sure I could afford to do the training

Yes-trainees are on salary. What I meant is that as far as I know trainees are paid from 9-4 or what ever and expected to travel in their own time to arrive at 9 etc. (so like any job) but qualifieds are on different contracts and book on at their Home Depot so if a Cambridge qualified is expected at the school at 9 to 4 then they will actually be paid 8-5 to give time to get there and back again. Hope that makes sense.

Most if the thameslink course, rules anyway, will be at hornsey if they have room.
