Thameslink customer Discount offer and refund scheme

Following the disruption to services on the Thameslink route between November 2009 and January 15, 2010, affected season ticket holders are being offered discounted tickets and refunds. This is in addition to the delay-repay compensation scheme which can be used when a service has been delayed by 30 minutes or more.

Summary of offer

Annual season ticket holders: Will be entitled to claim either a 5% discount off their next purchase (equivalent to over 2 weeks free travel) or tickets for 10 days free travel.

Monthly season ticket holders: Will be entitled to claim either a 50% discount off their next monthly card following the start of the scheme (equivalent to 2 weeks free travel) or tickets for 10 days free travel.

Weekly ticket holders:
- with four weeks of tickets during the period: Will be entitled to claim tickets for 5 days free travel.
- with eight or more tickets during the period will be entitled to claim ticket for 10 days free travel.

First Class ticket holders: Will additionally be entitled to claim for a refund of the difference between First Class and standard fare for the period 12 November 2009 to 23 January 2010 when First Class accommodation was declassified.

Please note: Discounts will be available when buying at First Capital Connect stations and online from the FCC website. Unfortunately where tickets are purchased at non-First Capital Connect Thameslink outlets we will only be able to offer the free tickets.

We are currently setting up IT and ticket office systems and staffing an office to deal with claims under the scheme. Exact details of how to claim will be published in early February. Please retain old tickets or proof of purchase in order to validate claims.

So what do people think? Fair or unfair? (Should I add a poll? :D )

Applies only to FCC on the TL route it seems, so no cover if you were on the SET run service to Kent or GN side.

Obviously GN users weren't affected anywhere near as much, but they certainly didn't get off totally scot free either!

But the joint services with Southeastern aren't actually joint. The SET services must be dealt with by their verison of refunds and the Sevenoaks Line never got reduced timetable unlike all other FCC services. It stayed 2tph as now.

Bare in mind all revence south of Blackfriars on the joint trains is given to SET so FCC won't refund what it never got.

So how does that effect Southern ticket holders on the Thameslink route where FCC services were totally absent and yet at certain times the FCC trains are the main part of the timetable and often the only train to the destination without changing to another route?

Are they entitled to the compensation? FCC definitely failed them!

I'm only asking because I wonder if I have the cheek to ask for the refund, as although my normal train is an FCC one which saves me about 20 mins every day - there were plenty of Southern alternatives to London where I got on the underground?

I actually think they're being quite generous, but maybe I'm easily pleased (says someone who is getting bugger all even though GN users had to suffer during the snow and staff shortages).

As far as I understand it you should be ok unless its a Southern Only ticket.
