I got on an earlier train today, a FCC 321 (402) and sat in first (declassified). However, I wonder how anyone could ever enforce First Class on this individual train when it is operational.
Okay, so the outside vinyls say 'first class' but step inside and there's NOTHING besides the FCC antimacassars saying 'First Class'. Not a single sign on any of the internal doors and none of the windows. No FC stickers from the old TOC, none from First, no old British-Rail style '1', no PF warnings, none of the older or newer FCC warnings.. absolutely nothing! Not even stickers to ask to keep feet off the seats!
By the time the train was inside the Travelcard zones, it was pretty full so with people seated there was no way to see 'first class' written on the seats either!
Would an RPI expect people to recognise FC by the seat covers, or the fact it's 2+2 seating? Would an RPI argue that you saw it said 'first class' somewhere on the outside of the train before boarding?
