Sir William McAlpine is opening his Fawley Hill railway on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th of May to celebrate the Centenary of Fawleys resident Hudswell Clarke 060 Saddle Tank Engine No 31. She has worked for Sir Williams family all her life and for the past 48 years has been happily pulling wagon loads of visitors up the steepest standard gauge gradient in the world at Fawley Hill.
This is a very rare opportunity to visit Sir William's private railway as it is not often open to general public so don't miss this opportunity!
This is a fundraising event and Sir William who is the president of Railway Benefit Fund, the charity that has been helping current and retired railway people and their families in hard times for over 150 years, would like to encourage you to come and in at least that way support the work of RBF.
Tickets can be bought on the Fawley Hill website www.fawleyhill.co.uk and if you put the initials RBF after your name on the ticket application form, majority of the money you paid will be donated to the Railway Benefit Fund.
Beside the engine mentioned above, the event will be a celebration of all forms of transport. From steam cars to Ferraris, steam rollers, lawn mowers, motor bikes, buses, vans, lorries, scooters, bicycles, an array of military might, fire engines, a steam bus and even boats.
Sir William is also expecting a Hurricane, a Spitfire, the Red Arrows. Machinery will include stationary engines, traction engines, horse-drawn ploughs, ploughing engines and JCBs.
Adult tickets are £10 a day or £16 for the weekend. Children under 12 are free while senior citizens will pay £8 per day or £14 for the weekend.
Friday evenings entertainment costs £6 and begins at 1800, ending at 22.00.
