On the BBC website.this morning, Labour have said.no to the reopening of the Fawley branch line to passengers.

Plans to run passenger services on a former freight line will not go ahead, the government confirms.

Not much good news coming from Labour re reopening lines. So much for investing in the country's infrastructure.

Plans to reopen Totton - Fawley/Hythe (again!)

No surprise really. Hardly any of the suggested reopenings were ever going to stack up. Restoring Your Railway always seemed to be about making positive sounding noises than actually reopening anything.

I remember when the RyR scheme was announced (with a tiny budget which would barely lead to anything more than feasibility studies) people on here suggested they were just projects which would mostly never happen, thought up by the tories, to make Labour look bad when they were inevitably binned by the latter party when they certainly gained power.

Perhaps the £2 bus fare cap comes into the same category (although that would mean the loss of an actual benefit rather than a paper one).
