What is your favourite train?

This can be any train operational or not.

Personally the best train is Bittern or Tornado (too hard to decide)

London Underground A stock, a Southern region slammer maybe CIG or VEP, a class 37 or a HST has to be mine.

Thomas the Tank ranks quite high too and Stepney on the Bluebell oh the childhood memories

I'm goiing to sound like a fool here but what is a 'thrash' and what's 'clag'? i've only been into enthusiasm since february so i'm pretty new to this

Clag is when locomotives do things like this:

Those are somewhat extreme examples but it's generally when a locomotive (steam or diesel) produces smokey exhaust.

390's are just fantastic.

Not just because they are fast and tilt, but because of the operational stress they are under.

Sit above a bogie and you will feel how hard these trains are working to keep things smooth and comfortable over rickety old track. Then think of the high frequency timetable that they run to, the amount of people that they carry and the comfort that they offer.

No train in the UK works harder than an Pendo or produces such excellent consistent results. A truly fantastic train that we really should be all singing the praises of, regardless of whether you think the interior is cramped or not.

agreed about the 350's too, such a weird siren noise when they are slowing or accelerating

But yeah, pendos best for long distance, 350s best for commuting. the WCML really has the best trains on the network

It's pretty hard to choose my favourite Train as I have affiliations with different classes!

I love HST's as I can remember them for as long as I've loved Trains, 91's when they came out were just the best thing I'd seen, plus getting a cab ride from Newcastle - Edinburgh from GNER's chief Chris Garnett helps it's cause, and recent close viewings of both Bittern (staying over at NRM York) and Tornado (NRM Shildon Steam Gala) it's hard not to fall in love with those, but still I can't shake off my dedication to my avatar and forum name, GNER Class 373! Those Eurostars were something else!

My choice would be the Class 365 (when it was in NSE running on 3rd rail) and the 411 CEP, mainly because these were the trains I used to catch the most (the former when I was at Secondary School) and the latter when I was younger (although it did vary between CIGs, CEPs and VEPs)

Thrash Is when a loco power handle is opened up and the revs are high, for exaple a single 37 on load 12 going up an incline from a standing start will produce thrash as the loco needs to have lots of power to get up the hill without failing

Okay fair enough it's a loco but it is a 'steam train' I see what your saying is by a loco I agree. My reason on the other hand is because it had worked London to Edinbrugh in a single day, and for an old loco like her it's quite an effort! and then two days later she operated edinbrugh to york and she has recently operated london king cross to york a lot and york to edinbrugh at other times.

But as in terms of train my fave has to be the 31454 for the sole purpose it looks fantastic and has the old BR Livery (well did do when I spotted it back in March at Fitzwilliam)

For modern traction it has to be:

1. HST + Tornado & coaches.
3. 91+MkIV coaches
4. Pendolinos aka 390's (even though I find them claustrophobic)

Older (Classic) Traction:

1. SR Slamdoor EMUs (CIG-BIG-REP-TC)
2. Braunton & any of the West Country Class locomotives.
3. Western Hydraulics (D1010/1015)
