Before travelling, either on a middle distance or long distance journey what do you like to do

For.me I have to have a coffee, a pasty and a almond croissant for my journey in case I miss lunch or need breakfast

In addition I need a magazine too :D

Mine was always to have a subway before travel, always ate it on the platform though (didnt want to stink out the carriage).

It would always be a steak and cheese - Toasted, lettuce, onions and mayo (hence not stinking out the carriage) this was regardless of the length of the journey but at the time i was a regular traveller to doncaster (which has like 4 subways within 5 minutes of the station, but dont use the one in the station concourse, they seem to purposely take an age)

I would always have 1 bottle of dr pepper and a fully charged ipad with books, and my laptop loaded with films and id load my luggage and then get my laptop and ipad out so i didnt bother anyone.

That was pretty much my whole routine for once a week on a Friday (1811 WID - SHF - DON and return) for about 6 months :)

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
I like to hope that my company actually cleans me before I do a full day's duty running from Bedford to Brighton or something.

For real?

Short distance just turn up and go.

Long distance, something to drink from Costa and maybe a cold sandwich from Tescos or something from my table seat with armrests and charging point facing forward.

For a long day out i always start the day with a Gregg's breakfast deal: bacon and sausage breakfast roll and a milky tea for £2 ( though it's now gone up to £2.25 if you have more than one item in your breakfast roll!)

If I'm not travelling for work I like to get to the station early and have a pint nearby.

OK, sometimes even if I'm travelling for work!

Wherever I lay my hat
Working out where the sun is, and where it will be in relation to the tracks when we pull out of the station, so that I can aim for a seat on the shady side. It's quite funny as I am so used to either looking to see where people or things' shadows are falling, or even checking my phone's compass, that sometimes I overlook the fact that the sun is actually in full view if I was to look upwards!

Whenever travelling Virgin Trains First Class to London, I usually go into the lounges at some point on my journey just to milk the free refreshments before getting on the train and receiving even more of them. I mean I've paid for the tickets, I might as well reap the benefits while I can. Otherwise you probably shouldn't be in First Class :p.

In that case you really don't want to use the Subway on platform 1, which only ever has one member of staff and seems to specialise in taking slightly longer than you have comfortably available so that you have to rush for your train.

I always went the one in Frenchgate food quarter, close enough to the station that I didn't have to worry too much about getting to the station on time.

I have actually been to either of them in like 2 years now since I learnt to drive.

Long Distance trips:

A good book or 2, tablet computer, powerbank and headphones, at least 2 bottles of water. (Summer Trips portable misting fan) plus on some very long distance routes 12 hours plus routes extra snacks and fruit.

Short distance trips:

Water Bottles (summer trips portable misting fan and powerbank) unfortunately aircon failure isn't uncommon especially on inland routes when constant extreme heat (40 degree plus) over taxes the aircon units.

And regardless of the length allways go to bathroom before boarding even if the train has onboard toilets just in case.

Strongest coffee available taken onto the train. Hard to beat. I also do that on planes whereas most people take the free alcohol. I also do this at cinemas come to think of it. I think it heightens my concentration levels.
