Favourite Scottish station

Aberdour - A jewel along the Fife coast. Massive props to the stationmaster there!
Loch Awe - My choice north of the Central Belt stations. Pretty, tidy and stand on the footbridge and look South for reason three!
Wemyss Bay - A classic station in an ever-changing landscape of crashing waves, cruising vessels and faraway islands all visible from either platform and the bar!

Perth by a country mile is my favourite station in the UK, never mind Scotland.

Runners up for me are Stirling, Wemyss Bay, and for some odd reason, Dundee...

A couple that spring to mind to me are Ardrossan South Beach (When I was there, it was a really warm, clear day, so I probably got a better impression of it than someone who might go on a somewhat rainy day), and Helensburgh Upper, just for the contrast between it and Helensburgh Central, which struck me as pretty horrible.

I don't know Perth station but it's curious that on another thread ("Stations in need of a revamp") Perth is described as "old, deserted and dirty. The Victorian roofs look like those off a haunted house."

Bit of a conflict of opinions!!!

For me probably Edinburgh Waverley. There is something about it that seems special and welcoming; plus from an enthusiast's point of view there are a lot of vantage points and lots to see and do.
It serves a lovely city which I really would love to spend more time there.
Plus the East Coast First Class Lounge is brilliant at Waverley!

I most dislike Thurso-the tunnel shape and dreary and dark concourse!

Wemyss Bay is something special.

Perth is interesting, it is a bit run down, but from an architectural point of view very interesting, some good, some bad. Older and newer bits quite brutally hashed together in places, but only noticable if you are looking for it, other parts are lovely.

Aberdeen is nice, not too big, not too small, not too busy, not too quiet. Inverness is another good one, but always seems busier and the concourse more congested than Aberdeen.

I like Partick aswell, newer build, but one of those that won't look dated in a few decades.

Not at all. Its decay and its abandoned remnants of former structures contribute to its appeal. Its two large platform clocks and bay windows are magnificent.

In a comparable way, I'm impressed by the remains of Gleneagles station, where its former glory can still be seen in the designs of the overbridge, despite the wood-rot, budleia and missing sections.

I rather like Inverness Station. Normally plenty happening and the staff there are very friendly.

Beauly: 54,540 passengers in 2011/12, not bad for a small place, I'd say the people of Beauly are making good use of their re-opened railway station!

To go back to the OP: Stirling for the fabulous architecture (and Perth too if it was refurbished); Duncraig for the view and the soft sea-loch air; Inverness, because whatever train you get on there is going to take you through great scenery.....

It's been a few years since I used the station, but I remember Lockerbie as being very nice, with a coal fire in the waiting room (or was it just the lobby?) on a typical dreich day. I can't comment on its comfort, but Dumfries is a handsome building.

Could not agree more with this whole post! I'd just like to add the charm of Achnashellach, hidden among the trees!

Achnasheen, Achnashellach & Glenfinnan are quite scenic stations.

Also, I quite like Edinburgh Waverley & Glasgow Central.

Its a bugger to get up the hill from the town to the station, but I'd recommend Falkirk High for the views over the central belt and Ochills etc.

And Drem, if you like watching fast trains (with the bonus of the branch line).

Gleneagles is due for a major refurbishment in readiness for the Golf.

The derelict part of the footbridge is being removed in order that a safer new vehicular entrance and turning circle can be introduced.

Altnabreac obviously! Stunning location and the most peaceful place to wait for a train in the UK.

Other stations I like:
Kirkcaldy is a really nice medium sized station, it is close to the town centre, has good parking but also a lovely setting in the park.
Neilston is a great wee station with friendly staff and all the facilities you need.
Stirling is also very nice, beautifully looked after and lovely period features.

Queen Street - The interior of the upper level is incredible. I am looking forward to the ugly gray facade being pulled down so that you can see the roof from George Square.

Wemyss bay- It is one of the most beautiful stations in the world not just scotland. The architecture is incredible.

Airdrie - Gotta put my hometown in there. When I was a kid I used to go there with my grandpa and for hours a day watching the trains and the people. I suppose it was those early days that got me interested in all things railway. Plus the roll and sausages are decent

I passed through Wemyss Bay a few weeks ago en-route to Rothesay. A superb station and the trip from Glasgow on a Rail&Sail ticket is a great way to sample the 'boat train' experience.
