Favourite preserved steam locos..

Following on from the "Favourite Diesel Locomotives" thread, I thought I'd start one for steamers too!

These are my personal top 5:

7828 Odney Manor
1442, I've known this loco since I was 2 years old.
60019 Bittern
6023 King Edward II, it won me the one off liveries POTW
5322, for the marvellous ROD livery.

Of them all? Gotta be 'Clan Line', surely its got to be steam preservations finest?
Always immaculately turned out and still doing what it was designed to do, she never fails to impress me!

Unlike diesels, I am a bit more particular when it comes to steamers; no.1 for me has got to be 6201 "Princess Elizabeth".

Next down the pecking order are:
6233 "Duchess of Sutherland"
70013 "Oliver Cromwell"
5690 "Leander"
71000 "Duke of Gloucester"

I would probably take a shine to 70000 "Britannia" and 46115 "Scots Guardsman" as well but haven't actually had a chance to have a ride behind those two yet.

Well, I've got a list of them.
1. A4 Mallard, It just has to be my favorite, I love the A4s and I would favourite all 6 Preserved ones if I could!
2. A3 Flying Scotsman, one of my favourites aswell, I just love it!
3. A1 Tornado, I think anyone should like this one scince it was built from scratch.
4. GWR Manor Class 'Foxcote Manor', she was the first GWR Locomotive I saw, aat the NYMR Autumn Steam gala 2011
5. BR 7MT Brittania Class 70013 'Oliver Cromewell, she was the first Standard I saw in steam, and I thought she was amazing!

Anything by Nigel Gresley who was a true genesis.

But my all time favorite is LNER 2-6-2 V2 Class No. 4771 'Green Arrow',was built in June 1936 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at Doncaster Works to a design of Nigel Gresley. The first-built and only surviving member of its class

My favourite preserved loco is ex-NCC 2-6-4T no 4, until last year to be seen out and about all over Ireland. A total beast!

Rather fond of Tangmere myself (seems to be the one that I get to see the most)
If I won the Euro Millions I'd see if I can find an old Merchant Navy rusting somewhere and have it restored back to running order in its original configuration.

Anything by Bulleid? A new build Leader, now that would be a curious thing to see... :-?

Standard 4 76079. I'm not a steam fan by any means but I can't help but like this one! I had a ride behind the loco as a 'fill-in' move whilst waiting for 40145 to buffer up to a 'WeddEx' at the ELR a few years go. The loco gave it a bit of thrash up the climb to Heywood!

Britannias, which I never really saw the point of very much until Ollie Cromwell returned to service, Nunney Castle (which is just that bit noisier than EoME because of the single chimeny (and the same goes for Earl Bathurst), and unrebuilt Bulleids, which may need a sympathetic hand at the regulator but sound great, and can go like the clappers.

D&RG K36 No 482 ?????? I assumed this was only about UK locos...... but i have to say, dam good choice sir!

Id go with the K36 and UP BIG BOY if im allowed to consider locos from beyond these shores!

The rules (if there are any) seem pretty flexible. Personally I don't see how Tornado counts as preserved.

Any Maunsell loco – the Schools are my favourites. Hope to see Stowe running again at the Bluebell before I'm too old to enjoy it.
