Everyone likes a good favourite, dont they.
Well whats everyone's favourite films?
My prerequisites for a favourite film are: the film has to be gritty, set in environments I can relate to, preferably British, be subtle or sobre and have some sort of dry wit to it.

My Top 5 films

1. Telstar - The Story of Joe Meek, The Soundtrack to this film is just sublime.
2. Get Carter, Love the opening sequence and the locations.
3. Apocalypse Now
4. Villain
5. Four Lions

The Third Man - for its dark undertones and mystery.
The Battle of Britain - Stirring opening sequence, British resolve at its best.
Blues Brothers - Good soundtrack, even if some of the scenes are a little surreal.

Some great seventies films, I think in terms of film quality the 70s were a far superior period for films compared to the 80s.

I would add animal house but I've only seen it once and I loved it!

I cannot watch horror films or stuff with too much gore, for two reasons 1. I'm a big wuss, 2. There is enough horror in this world, you don't need to create fictional stuff. I also cannot stand fantasy or sci fi stuff, I just find it boring.

My top 5 most hated films:

Titanic, the story line is so simple its bordering on pretentious.
Avatar, another one of James Camerons pretentious creations, the world is so colourful, I thought I was tripping, the film just left me cold.

The only Titanic film worth watching is A Night to Remember. It was released in 1958, and featured (then) state-of-the-art special effects including a 20ft model of the ship (complete with clockwork lifeboats) sinking into Ruislip Lido! It also features some very good acting and is more-or-less true to history, as understood then.

Speaking of true-to-history, can I put in a vote for Apollo 13, which does have a few inaccuracies (although they're hard to spot) but gets as near to the feel of actually flying in space as I've ever seen, up with 2001.

Not really a huge film fan (to the point where in most cases I'd not watch them out of choice), but the seven I can ever remember watching are The Three Amigos, Blazing Saddles, Gone with the Wind (what a torturous experience that was), The Time Machine (I think), Valiant, Johnny English and The Ladykillers (1955 original). If I had to choose a genre it would be Western, some comedy perhaps but little beyond that would interest me. Things like James Bond and all that carry on I find just dull and uninteresting.

Blazing Saddles

I'd agree with that. Brilliant film. I would quote some of it but most of it's way too inappropriate for here! Will say though first time I watched it I totally lost it (as in laughing) at the bit where the script reader goes 'And now to extend a warm and hearty handshake to our new...'

Decent enough moral of the whole tale though, which I think a lot watching it would miss.

I'm also not that big on watching films - I've got the attention span of a teaspoon.

I am a massive fan of Studio Ghibli films though (apart from the abomination that is Tales From Earthsea, which is a dreadful adaptation from the series of books by Ursula K. Le Guin), with 6 of my 10 favourite films being Studio Ghibli films. 3 of the remaining 4 are derived from the works of Stephen King.
