I've never owned a television so am unfamiliar with most of the shows mentioned.

However,when it comes to radio,I have a fondness for "Around The Horne",and I enjoyed "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy".

Just thought of "Some others do ave em". Made me cringe mainly but OK. I never really saw Frank as "in denial" at the time but I now know someone who is just like that. Have to hide the tools before he gets started.

Look out for Chewin the Fat, sketch show which led to Still Game.

Oh yes, great shows. I only discovered them a couple of years ago but I've repeatedly watched the shows time and time again. Being from England we didn't get chance to see them in their days. I absolutely love the Glaswegian patter. Navid and Isa were my favourites.

Dad's Army, both TV and radio adaptations.
Spinoffs from Dad's Army - It sticks out half a mile, where some of the cast subsequentially became involved in restoration of a pier and Parsley sidings, Arthur Lowe as the stationmaster.

I've got all the Dad's Army, It Sticks Out Half a Mile and Parsley Sidings in MP3 format and fall asleep listening to them at night.

Hancock's Half Hour is another must too.

I've also just thought of another example of a brilliant comedy show - On the Buses. The timing of some lines from the actors - and their delivery of some lines - isn't perfect and sometimes sticks out like a sore thumb but it is really good. There's around 7 series to watch, and I think they seem to tail off in quality near the end as Reg Varney left and the show tried to keep going, but it's still funny.

Sorry but that's one of those comedies that I really feel hasn't weathered well. The Harry Enfield/Paul Whitehouse lampooning of it was very accurate. It's no Rising Damp or Porridge.

Best sketch comedy - the Fast Show

Best series - The Thick Of It

The Thick of It is just superb; a modern day update on Yes Minister which was equally brilliant if considerably less sweary!!

Mitchell and Webb have also been mentioned and whilst I find it a bit patchy in places, some of it was brilliant. The three Conspiracy Theory takedowns are eviscerating!

Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister might be over 30 years old but they are timeless. So relevant even today and absolutely hilarious.

I was disappointed in the 1990's that the BBC was, even then, too "Remainer" to do a "Yes Minister" style parody about the EU.

My hopes were raised when Gordon Brittas went to Brussels to be interviewed for an EU job

Sadly it never came to pass.

I've been watching it recently and I've got to agree with you for the most part. There are some bits which are still quite good but a lot of it isn't. I think the spoof was called Omnibuses - very funny as well.

Seeing Pippa Heywood again reminds me she was in Green Wing. A wonderfully surreal experience
