Favourite British Mainline Traction? (My first Post!!!)

Yo ppl! This is my first ever post to the RailUK Forums!
I'm absolutely obsessed with trains (Especially British Mainline and London Underground) and am a train spotting geek!
I'm here to ask you: What is your favourite Traction from British mainline?

Here's mine:
Elec Loco - Class 91
Diesel Loco - Class 43 (HST)
DMU - Class 170 Turbostar
AC EMU - Class 357 Electrostar
DC EMU - Class 465 Networker
DEMU - Class 220/221 Voyager (What's the difference between them?)
Other - Class 373 (Eurostar)

I love all of them except for the 220/221...btw the different is that the 221 is longer and tilts I think, the 220 don't...

I also love, 150, 156, 155, 153, 158, 159, 175 and 323

Are the 221's longer? I didn't know that, I thought it was just the tilt gear that was the difference.

In answering the original post, quite a few but mainly the older stuff, 43, 37, 47, 20.

221s aren't longer in terms of the length of the train they just have 5 coaches 1 extra than a 220s 4 coaches.

My answers are surprisingly similar actually.

I agree with the 91, 43, 170 and the 357. As for the others:

DC: 'D'-stock
DEMU: 222
Other: 121 [does a one-car unit really count as a DMU? It's effectively heritage anyway.]

All-time favourite, however, is the legendary Flying Scotsman [any bets I'm not the only one?], which I was lucky enough to see being worked on at the NRM in March last year, on my way to a Uni interview in Scarborough.

Chiltern Railways uses one occasionally between Aylesbury and Princes Risborough, No 55020

Personally, I'd have to say the HST is my favourite modern day traction. I especially love the new CrossCountry HSTs, which blend modern and classic perfectly.

The only other place with an operational 121 is Cardiff [only thing Arriva are good for ]. First visit, it ran; second... I've already complained about on here.

DMU: Class 165s, 168s and 170s
AC EMU: Class 350s, 357s, and 377/2s
DC EMU: Class 450s
DEMU: Voyagers (Class 220s,221s and 222s)
Loco: WSMR Liveried Class 67s

I Don't want to seem picky here but D Stocks are not British Mainline Traction as they run under LUL but I see why you picked them because they are great to drive

Also 121s can be classified as DMUs as they are units and operate using Diesel Power even if they are one car, Its like 153s they are one car but still classified as DMUs.

221's have tilting bogies although I am not sure if the tilt function is used. 220's have non-tilting bogies with exposed wheelfaces. Apologies if anyone else has already pointed this out.

XC 221s have the tilt disabled, but the Virgin 221s still use it.

Good choices on the DC EMU (My favorite ) and AC EMU, and Class 220 & Class 221 'Voyager' units (Diffrence between them is the Class 221 is 5-car with an onboard shop).

DC & AC: Southern & Great Eastern 'Slammer EMUs (Class 411s, Class 415s, Class 465s, Class 456s, Class 455s, Class 421s, Class 423s, Class 309s, Class 305s, and Class 302s).

Locomotives: Class 33s, Class 73s, 86s, Class 70s.

DEMU: Class 221 & Class 220s.

FYI that was never made active. All the signage was put up, and all planned but the EPS never went ahead (enhanced permitted speed). The only EPS stretches that XC run on are Brum - Stafford - Manc via Stoke and Crewe, and Brum - Coventry.

The tilting mechanism wasn't just disabled, it was removed to save weight, time and money on maintenance.
