"Waterloo Sunset" It was the end of Southern steam that inspired Ray Davies to write that track was it not? Love it!
A beautiful song, definitely would be one of my Desert Island Discs, with one of the great, understated guitar riffs by Dave Davies. Ray Davies is quite unlike anybody else in the pop business, a deep thinker who doesn't accept that everything new is great and everything old should be confined to the dustbin of history, hence ''Waterloo Sunset''.

So you didn't manage to catch Arthur Lee (and his new incarnation of Love) when he toured the UK 10 years ago? I manage to catch them on three occasions, 'Forever Changes' was brilliant...as he was and the band! I would like to have seen the Doors, missed them by a couple of years...was it the RoundHouse gig?
My apologies, I missed your post first time round.
Missing seeing Arthur Lee and Love was one of the biggest disappointments of my life, especially as I had a ticket for the Royal Albert Hall, but work and family commitments conspired to preclude a 600 mile round trip, even overnight. I knew I'd never get another opportunity.
The word seminal is much overused IMO but 'Forever Changes' can certainly be so described: not a duff track on the album or anything even slightly sub-standard.
Yes, the Doors concert was the Roundhouse one, and they'd sold so many tickets that I was trapped behind a pillar from which I never actually saw Morrison, just the others! The Doors appeared first, then an interval, then Jefferson Airplane making (I think) their first British appearance, by which time roundly half the audience had disappeared! The Airplane were well aware that to 'follow that' was nigh on impossible but they put everything into their set, ending with a stupendous 'White Rabbit' for which I will always remember them fondly, especially Grace Slick, and the light show was 'out of this world' and I'd seen a few! I felt very fortunate to have been there.
