Faulty TPWS transmitter loop?

I have just driven a Class 60 on the Birmingham Cross City South route (ignoring all stops), and on the approach to Kings Norton station (i think) there is a change in speed limit to 40mph round the slight curve and past the station.
There is a TPWS transmitter loop to make sure you are doing 40mph if not, brakes applied and the train comes to a halt. Well it always seems to catch me out even when I'm doing just below 40mph. So with the 60, i got it down to 35mph on the approach just be on the safe side, yet it still set the TPWS off in the cab and brought me to a stand? The proceeding signal was a green too!

Must be doing something wrong... anyone know why its being rediculously sensitive?

I suspect it's because you are doing at passenger run with a freight loco.

Let me try and explain;

The maximum speed freight trains are allowed over the TPWS is lower than for passenger trains, as they're heavier and take longer to stop.

The plugin on the loco will tkae the maximum permitted speed (which is correct for passenger trains) and reduce it as appropriate for freight trains.

Thus, even through the TPWS is set at 40mph for passenger trains, it's actually lower for freight trains.

Solution: don't use freight on passenger diagrams!

If that is the case then it is an incorrect implementation of TPWS within BVE sim.

When TPWS over speed sensors are installed, they are installed to take into account (amoung other things) the braking characteristics of the trains with the poorest braking profiles over that route. That set speed is universal to all types and classes of train.

There is no set speed for one type of train and another set speed for another type of train.

Yes, there is.

The on-board TPWS 'trigger delay timer' has a different setting on a freight train than on a passenger train, therefore the set speed of any Overspeed Sensor System is dependent on whether the train passing over it is a passenger train or a freight train.

So complete your 3185 and ask your PM what the speed was you were doing at the grids, and what speed they are set to. That will give you the definitive answer.
