Fatality on crossing

'A 30-year-old woman died today after losing control of her car in icy conditions and becoming stranded in the path of an oncoming train.

The victim was struck by the 8.33am Peterborough to Lincoln service operated by East Midlands Trains.

A Lincolnshire police spokesman said that in “treacherous” wintry weather the driver's Rover 216 apparently veered into the path of a van at a level crossing in South Drove, near Spalding.

As the car was buffeted on to the tracks the barriers came down. The driver desperately tried to move her car off the line as a train approached at speed, but without success.'

Before anyone says anything, it appears to have been a tragic accident, the other vehicle and it's occupants mananaged to get clear, the woman didn't.

A tragic accident, really unfortunate. On a line where trains run hourly, & she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, & when a train was due. My thoughts go to her family. RIP

I read somewhere that the train was 2 minutes early, if it had been on time or late, this tragic accident might not have happened. RIP.

From what I've heard and read, her car clipped another car, and she was stuck at the Level Crossing. The Barriers came down, she tried to get herself off the track, the wheels were stuck, and she was catapulted a few metres onto the track out of her car...

However, a police officer questioned her doing this, and admiring her in saying that she could have got out of the car, panicked, or heroically tried to get her car off the tracks in the hope of not hurting anyone on the train.

And yes - it was two minutes late
