Erm, no. If somebody pushes you in front of a train, you aren't deciding to jump in front of it and kill yourself. In fact, it's more like being a victim of murder or attempted murder (obviously depending on if you survive or not).

I've just been talking over the subject and I quote them

The people who throw themselves under trains are for the most part lonely or mentally ill and think the world has forgotten them. They don't know where to turn for help. The train operators think they are a damn nuisance and disrupt the train service and only want to get rid of them one way or the other. The train driver can get counsellin but the poor victim rarely does and it's probably too late anyway. The rail buffs don't really understand why people do it and put forward all sorts of bollocks to explain it and then get into arguments over it.

TheSlash, valid point, I've not been there to deal with it, but I've got an image in my head of what it could look like, I'd not like it.

I'm not going to say 'Suiciders are selfish, shouldn't jump in front of trains'. No, that's not exactly true. If you were going to do it, your mind would be in a bad way, you're not going to consider anyone else.

I know someone who wanted to do it once, jump in front of a HST at 125. Thankfully we talked him out of it, but it's not a job I'd want, talking to people with that idea in mind. Not because I like HSTs, it's not something I'd like to do, have people ring up and talk about how they want to end it all.

Maybe so, maybe it is selfish. But did hear the story of the woman who was meant to meet her husband at 11:00 at a tube station to go shopping, the next thing she's under a train?

I've tried to commit suicide myself and you don't care what happens , you just want it to end regardless of what does it to you.

It's ok to like trains, but butt-licking them and thinking the world is stable by trains you are very very wrong, trains are not the best thing in the world, love is.

And these people who die don't have that love

People who get pushed under trains are are completely different matter. How you think you can compare them to people who do it on purpose, is absurd :x :!

Also, it seems you persume we are against people throwing themselves under trains because we are worried about the trains. IMO this is just a way of avoiding the truth, its a very selfish way to commit suicide

A final word from TheSlash is required, methinks:

the next time you hear of a fatality, you need to think 'Is it a trackside member of railway staff' because so far this year i have read reports of 3 members of staff being killed, 2 of which were in yards and so probably not in the public domain and a 3rd was a lookout, the person who is put in place to allow other staff to carry out maintenance and repair without fear of being caught unaware of approaching trains.
I agree people who throw themselves under trains are selfish etc, believe me, i have been involved with the clean up of 2 fatalities and i have thought 'wouldnt it be easier to get a packet of pain killers and a bottle of vodka' but then you speak to the drivers and you realise these people just wanted to end it as quickly as possible, they were beyond normal thoughts.
Their actions deeply affect their family and the staff involved. Descending Sadly, you think that a driver attending counselling will make it all go away? Drivers are people aswell, some will have countless fatalities and not blink an eye, some will have 1 and retire from the job, its not a text book thing with text book answers.
