My thoughts are with the driver, the staff who have to clean up the mess, the passengers who are inconvenienced and then the family and friends of the deceased. But each to their own!

Of course, a driver shouldn't have to go through what he/she did (as well as other staff), still doesn't doesn't mean I have to have no sympathy whatsoever with the family.

Makes one wonder whether a debt company have sent out a batch of insensitive letters.

Some of them aren't related to debt or personal troubles, cant speak about these incidents specifically but some of these fatalities are down to people crossing the track whilst listening to iPods etc, some are due to illness, there was one a couple of weeks ago round my way, I sort of knew the bloke he used to be in charge of a band and very often used to walk the streets thinking the band was behind him, he was oblivious to everything going on around him, very often used to walk in the middle of the road shouting etc, wouldn't move for any cars etc, he got struck by a train last week

1Y28 has hit a person North of Colchester at the worst possible time & on a Friday too. trains are now queued all the way back beyond Witham from Liverpool St.

There's been a fatality North of Colchester and the line is blocked. Abellio are directing passengers for Norwich to change at Cambridge. Currently on the 1928 to Cambridge and hoping I make the connection...

1C92 (0736 Derby - St Pancras) was the train involved.

Thoughts to all involved.

Now looks like the incident wasn't a fatality. Services appear to be recovering well now.

During the afternoon there were various announcements at St Albans City station about delayed trains, including early on, a comment about "a previous trespass incident". Later delays were being attributed to a faulty train.

Two faulty trains - one at City TL which got gapped about 1330 coming out of the sidings, and our old friend 1W90 (the train formerly known as 1W95 of RAIB fame) failing in City TL for an hour this evening. Anyone who wants to see 24tph in action may wish to visit St Pancras low level northbound platform for the next hour.

Wasn't quite what I'd heard but I'm not going to set off a load of speculation!
Good news is the party involved was apparently unharmed. Still a far from pleasant experience for the Driver concerned though.

From what I heard and read it ended with "the lady is now receiving the help she needed" sounds like a call for help or desperation, hope all involved are bearing up ok.

It certainly wasn't immediately apparent that it wasn't a fatality. They had BTP, medics and NR people carefully inspecting everything before we moved.The TM did confirm it wasn't before we moved.

The inital braking to a stand was swift but not dramatic.

First time I've ever been caught up in such an incident. The TM handled it well and provided regular updates - as a passenger you can't ask or expect much more.

Was caught up in both - total delay 100 minutes today -_- (I know cricklehood wasn't GTR's fault).

On a train this morning (we were held at Elstree), we were told 'hit by a train', the screens in London say trespass incident (but they've said that when it has been a fatality too). 40 min delay, but it was only in the last 10 mins we got clarity. Driver kindly opened the doors at Elstree tho.

This evening, I got Blackfriars when the trains were already starting to queue up. No trains left going Northbound for an hour. We were told it was a problem with the doors, but it seemed to take much much longer than normal to get the train moved out of the way. The station announcements were absolutely endless (and didn't really give any additional info for 45 mins).

And I'd only been thinking yesterday that there had been a good run of performance...

Oh she won't.

The (usually reliable) grapevine has it on good authority that this was an elderly lady who had a list of things she wanted to do before she died, one of which was to experience the 'thrill' of lying on the track while a train went over her.

It will be interesting to see what the 'authorities' do.

So it seems that the post by 455driver may not have been so misplaced!

Once again sad to hear of such an event happening. For those affected, Virgin tickets are OK on Chiltern (who may in and of themselves have a few residual delays due to earlier signalling problems at London Marylebone), East Coast, Transpennine Express and East Midlands Trains. London Midland tickets are OK on London Overground but I should imagine on other operators shortly, if at all possible. With a number of trains already having been reported as full and standing on VT routes before this occurred, I'd suggest using any alternatives if people can.
