The BBC are reporting:

A woman and young child have died after being hit by a train in Slough, Berkshire, in "suspicious circumstances", police have said.

Police were called just before 09:45 BST and the station is currently closed.

A British Transport Police spokesman said they had not yet identified the victims and could not at this stage confirm the age or gender of the child.

They are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A South Central Ambulance crew pronounced the two people dead at the scene.

There was a suicidal person on Somerton viaduct earlier, too, disaster seems to have been averted in that case though, thankfully!

My thoughts are with the families, staff and passengers caught up in these horrible events.

I agree the location of Windsor is a bit off but I think the biggest error is the connecting the Slough branch line to the Waterloo line!

There is actually an ambitious plan to do exactly this and tunnel through the centre of Windsor linking Central station to Riverside station, see http://windsorlink.co.uk but I think its a bit early to include it on maps!

We were caught up in the post-Slough tragic incident yesterday, arriving at Paddington just as the announcements about cancellations and delays were starting.

I just wanted to say that the entire rail force were absolutely brilliant in the ensuing turmoil. They acted as one to put passengers' needs first, allowing travel on alternative services without questioning ticket validity once. Instead of coming home via Newport as planned, we were allowed to board a delayed direct Hereford service, which then terminated at Worcester Foregate Street where we transferred to a LM train to complete our journey, our tickets by now bearing no relationship to the train we were on but being accepted without question.

Well done to everyone concerned. No doubt there was a lot of upset among station and train staff in view of the horrific circumstances, but they maintained a calm and professional service at all times. It reinforced my pride in the wonderful rail system we operate in this country. Thank you.

The Gloucester incident was, I'm told, witnessed by a number of staff and passengers, but not by the Driver. The deceased allegedly left the platform and ran at the side of the train, which was brought to a stand in the Haresfield area having received an emergency broadcast as it passed through Tuffley. It travelled quite a distance from the scene of the in incident.
