I often find myself festering at Bletchley, waiting for delayed 350s, or now 730s.
There's the usual "the next train at platform x does not stop here" (with that rather curious intonation that emphasises 'here', which has always slightly bothered me....but that's another matter......!) followed by advice for people with pushchairs and luggage to flee to a place of safety. But it is actually rather well coordinated with the actual passage of non stopping services......although it also includes the emu shunting moves in and out of BY which actually do stop in the far platform The PIDs also indicate there's a non stopping service going through, so they're clearly linked to the announcements. The advice is pretty handy at times, as when the Felixstowe - Coatbridge bombs through at 75mph with 2 90s and 1500T of containers with a gaggle of punters heading to MK on a night out arsing about on the platform, you don't want any of them to be too close by.
What annoys me though, is that they make the same announcements for trains passing platforms 1 & 2 on the up and down fast, which are gated and not in public use except during engineering works or whatever, so every bleedin' Avanti service plus the fast Crewes get a mention, and I think it undermines the safety messages on the other publicly accessible platforms.
Timed messages Scotrail style are completely counter productive if anything, IMO. The purpose of safety messaging is not to irritate people to the point of them tuning it out altogether.
